What features are you looking for in the NAS? Here is my advise: NASes come in different forms and all work in different ways. You can also build your own NAS if you have a computer and disks. What really matters are the features you are looking for. We call this "customer requirements", which is what a quotation need to fulfill. It's quite odd that a client would ask for something they don't know much about and a supplier pushes one down their throat. Are you going to be doing manual backups? Sorry, but this is another indulging one! Then my suggestion is that you consider THREE things: 1. Disk redundancy - if you have a single 2TB disk without RAID, you are sitting on a time-bomb. So it's better to have 2x2TB HDD in a RAID 1 (Mirror). Slow, but hopefully both disks wouldn't die on you at the same time! You could get a NAS with a capacity of 4 disks and do a RAID 5 or RAID10... it's upto you to decide on what RAID level you want, but RAID1 is the most basic and you shouldn't do without at least RAID1. 2. Space required - This equals the equivalent of the sum of the sizes of all the disks you are going to backup (at the extreme, assuming that you are going to create disk images. You can do the sizing yourself. 3. Network connectivity - it would be great if your NAS has a Gigabit interface to the LAN, and you have a Gigabit switch. Walter, I second @wash , what do you really want to achieve with the NAS, do you want to do pure storage, pure backup, manual backup, planned, incremental, is the size of your data incremental, to allow for a scalable solution etc. such facts is what is required to provide you with a solution/product, without which I will just pull a product down your throat. rgds Antony.....
