Fedora 19 will replace MySQL with MariaDB

For your Information, Fedora 19, the default database installation will no longer be MySQL but MariaDB. All "yum install mysql*" will be obsoleted by "yum install mariadb*" and MySQL retired from the repositories. Read along for details -> http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/ReplaceMySQLwithMariaDB

It has been a long time coming, I just hope that no one buys MariaDB .... I plan to check it out soon! I wonder if this means that I can't FedUp to Fedora19, my cd drive is busted :( On Mon, Mar 18, 2013 at 3:46 PM, Arthur Buliva <arthurbuliva@hotmail.com>wrote:

Buying something Open-Sourced just to EOL it will not work in this day and age. Apart from the unhealthy business practice(eliminating competition), it's not as easy to eliminate and force people to migrate their business to your solution(Long Live COBOL and all forks of mysql). When you finally get mariadb running, the binaries and the console are "mysql*". Unless I am wrong, the last time I ran mariadb (i was just checking it out), the usual "mysql*" commands applied. So I wondered then as I do now, could such a triviality form the basis of a lawsuit ? -- Ndungi Kyalo

It cant. MySQL's GPLv2 licence allows for that kind of maneno. No reason law suits...(For now atleast ) _______________________________________________ *“Java is to JavaScript what Car is to Carpet.”* _______________________________________________ * * 2013/3/19 Ndungi Kyalo <ndungi@gmail.com>
