Good people, I am looking for pointers to a device like the one on the below URL. Something I can slot in a HDD and play my files off it. http://www.dx.com/p/1080p-hd-mini-media-player-with-sd-2-x-usb-av-hdmi-s-pdi... There was once a thread on such by Wash but I seem to have lost it. Thanks in advance., Lenya

Hi Anthony, The WDTV media player (http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=1270) should meet your needs. Costs about 10k. Not sure about the Apple TV product. On Thu, Jan 15, 2015 at 5:07 PM, Anthony Lenya via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

My 2c. I have owned the WDTV and last year switched to the Amazon Fire TV. Without a doubt if you can, get an amazon fire tv, the user experience blows every other streaming device out the water. Since it runs android, you can set your own dns service and so watch netflix, hulu, hbo, amazon instant video easily. And that bluetooth remote, oh my, I don't have words, it's almost like, why aren't all remote controls bluetooth??! You can now hide the gadget behind the tv since a clear line of sight isn't necessary anymore. In the US it's around $99, on e-bay slightly less. Not seen it anywhere locally though. :( On 15 January 2015 at 17:10, Brian Ngure via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Unfortunately, the AFTV is built mainly for streaming. You can watch from an external drive via Plex (home theater software) but that may require some configuration to get work as expected. If playing off an external drive is your primary motive, then any other android player or WDTV will have to do. I use plex on my desktop to play movies and series using the device, so I've never really had a need to connect an external hdd. Here's more info on plex <https://plex.tv/>, it turns your pc (or external hdd) into a home theater server. I have the Amazon Fire TV for 12 K and Roku 3 for 12k as well. I can show you how to config the Roku 3 for streaming services ( all you need is an additional TP-Link ) which I can get you about 4k Kevin On Thu, Jan 15, 2015 at 9:40 PM, John K. via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Folks, Thank you all for the feedback. However, my biggest requirement was the ability to connect a 3.5' HDD which I have. It appears I will need to review and chart a course. I will be communicating soon. Regards, A.L On Fri, Jan 16, 2015 at 11:29 AM, Kevin Omondi via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
