Hi All, Is it just me or anyone experiences the headaches of buying, checking, & managing data bundles on Safaricom on the iPad. For one, getting the website www.safaricom.com/bundles to detect the iPad is a pain - for some time, I only get the message that they are unable to detect my modem number. After talking to the care team on twitter, at first they were clueless and one even had the audacity to ask me to remove my battery and return it back - SMH. Then at long last, I was given very good instructions, add an APN: Safaricom with Username/Password: saf. And then make sure you take your device to Airplane mode if the site doesn't detect it - This worked perfectly, now my device is detected. And I managed once to load a 1.5Gb bundle since I wanted to stay for as long as possible to go through this. I did a skype video session which lasted more than an hour, the quality of both video & voice was perfect, and I had no regrets even with the huge consumption of the bundle. Now, I needed to do another session today and just checking how much bundle I have remaining was a pain. The device & number is detected perfectly, but the website stays stuck on 'Wait while we retrieve your details' It has been retrieving my details since 6:30am till now about 9:45am - Got tired and had to remove SIm card and buy the bundle on my phone before returning it to the iPad. I just cannot live with this - My question is, is there a provider who has a better way of bundles being managed on the iPad? I dont care even if the speed crawl, but at leaste I will be in peace with the process! if none, do I really have to live with this? what is the alternative since am not into the daily auto-renewal bundles on the iPad. frustrated ./Ok3ch

Dear All, I got feedback from Safaricom, apparently, they had some issues this morning which have since been resolved, and they are aware of the difficulties people are going through and are actually addressing it. I am happy with the response and will give feedback next time I have to buy more bundles since I believe it may have been this one occurrence, but did drive me nuts. ./Ok3ch On Wed, Feb 22, 2012 at 11:33 AM, James Muendo <timrick@gmail.com> wrote:

Dear All, Had the same issue as okech, come here for reference. :-( I got sorted by safaricom as below incase someone get stuck. Switch OFF wifi. Turn ON airplane mode then back OFF, refresh/goto site: www.safaricom.com/bundles. However this is a temporary solution once you close the browser needs repeating. -- *"One who ask questions is a fool for five minutes one who doesn't is a fool forever."*

Yep, been surviving with this for now too... ./Ok3ch On Wed, Mar 28, 2012 at 12:30 PM, nerdalf <nerdalf@gmail.com> wrote:

Perhaps because the extra 2 bob was used to access the site in the first place thus bringing your effect balance to less than the bundle cost. A good idea would be to zero-rate the site to allow those even without credit to access the portal and top-up. Of importance is that the correct line is automatically picked by the portal without resorting to restarts, etc. ./bernard On Thu, Apr 19, 2012 at 7:56 AM, Calvin Baron go <calvinebarongo@gmail.com>wrote:

That site still gives me a lot of issues on the iPad - Getting to know the balance is always a hard sell and more often am contented with just removing my SIM card and inserting it on a phone and using the *544# There is still a lot to be done on its stability - IMHO and I have been patient enough waiting for it one day to work seamlessly. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Apr 19, 2012 at 8:01 AM, Bernard Mwagiru <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:
Perhaps because the extra 2 bob was used to access the site in the first place thus bringing your effect balance to less than the bundle cost.
A good idea would be to zero-rate the site to allow those even without credit to access the portal and top-up.
Of importance is that the correct line is automatically picked by the portal without resorting to restarts, etc.

I have tried but you must have 2 shillings extra otherwise you would not be able to get a data bundle having the exact amount for the cost of a particular bundle Regards

Just tested the site and it picked my number correctly, loaded airtime and purchased a 4GB bundle.
Did you try it?

Dear All,
I got feedback from Safaricom, apparently, they had some issues this morning which have since been resolved, and they are aware of the difficulties people are going through and are actually addressing it. I am happy with the response and will give feedback next time I have to buy more bundles since I believe it may have been this one occurrence, but did drive me nuts.

Dude,
Use wap.safaricom.com/bundles
You have to have some airtime in your sim to access the service.

Okech : - I suffer through the same. - I think that page should be zero rated. I should'nt really pay to access a portal to pay you:-). - I hate not knowing if my bundle expires mid-meeting and can't even load the page to top up. boiler plate options: - This would work really well for Safaricom if they had some wifi in town because with device detection and the tight coupling to their network, they can technically push bundle notifications. and wifi is cheaper (They not having wifi actually gets me a bit worked up). Unfortunately having worked there I can tell you really funny 'lets introduce wifi' stories. It is in IMHO one of the biggest lost opportunities by a 'doing well' carrier, even if they were to do it now which I still hope they do:-). but ehh meh! - Another option is an IPAD/Android APP that manages bundles and keeps track of usage for you on your device. All easy to do for them. It would be really nice if it can be set to auto renew bundles if funds are available or for a post paid account. - whats more this automatic device detection (again back to wifi) would let them do QOS for well me:-) any maybe Okech: Gitau On Wed, Feb 22, 2012 at 9:47 AM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:
Hi All,
Is it just me or anyone experiences the headaches of buying, checking, & managing data bundles on Safaricom on the iPad.
