Ok so safcom is giving a month only... antway enugoh time for us to acquire addtional handsets... coz as long as zain will be keeping that price might as well use that when the month is up :-D

My theory, Zain shot themselves in the foot by attracting the wrath of safaricom. Their 100 million plus subscribers will be of no use to the kenyan market if they are making losses in this market. Unless their innovations have nothing to do with safaricom products, I see this ending only one way. Safaricom will ensure they bleed until they come back to the table and negotiate not to fight on price anymore. In the meantime, Safaricom are selling laptops to teachers and students with modems and continue to rake in much more from data and Mpesa than they did voice I sometimes find emotional excitement clouds sound business judgement and that is happening to many who are claiming that Safaricom has finally met its match. In my opinion. @joram if i got into the kenyan market, had a kitty big enough and appreciated the benefits of being a dominant player... and if my kitty were big enough to undercut you, make losses for five years, drive you out of business then leverage on economies of scale... and if i had a real shot of being a dominant player in a region with 120 --> nnnay, 230 million (counting ssudan and drc) potential subscribers .... a region that soon may open the possibility of an integrated business environment... just if the conditions were right, i would make losses for three years and drive you out of business. @Mwinamo, what lesson? if anything it is safcon who have to bend to accommodate the change in market dynamics. Their one month promo of 2bob internetwork calls for PREPAID who can afford airtime of above 100bob is just that, a promo. Ati testing the waters! What about the Post Paid guys? they will still be paying 12bob per minute. SMS price remains the highest @3.50. The market will never be the same again. Airtel's 100millin plus subscribers gives the a leverage on economies of scale to sustain this so called 'pricing wars' Safaricom can sale all the data and laptops to teachers and be as 'innovative' (saw the innovation thread?) but its the guy downstairs whom they are charging 5bob per minute who calls the shots.
