SMART TV shut down

Greetings OK, I'm not in Nairobi currently in the bundus, can anyone confirm this. Just seen an article on todays Daily Nation Newspaper Zuqka page 10. Honestly I am not surprised. At one point in August last year, I went to their offices to purchase a decoder with cash in hand, I was told to return the following day. Definitely I didn't take them seriously after this event. Glad I didn't buy their locked DVB-T1 equipment. Oh yah and another victory for DSTV through GOTV. Remember the ghost that is GTV. Cheers -- Lusiola Brian |3 R 1 /-\ |\|

I bought the decoder in December 2010, I got six month free subscription, the gave me a scratch card in june for one month, i put the card and did the SMS thing to top up, the thing has neva worked since then, On Fri, Feb 10, 2012 at 10:35 AM, Brian L <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:

@Brian, You are clearly in the bundus! Smart Tv was shut down last week. Went down with loads of client cash - decoders and subscription fees! Makes the 'Cheap is expensive' sound so real. Now stuck with a MultiChoice monopoly. Its everyone's guess how digital TV migration will play out. Me thinks it is an issue of experience in running digital TV. Ps: KBC had a stake in Smart TV and still does in Multichoice East Africa. Smart TV's death came after the launch of GOTv - KBC is in both. On 2/10/12, Brian L <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:

OK I may stand to be corrected, but I think the only reason there was a KBC stake on Smart TV is that the first license for DVB-T platform was handed to signet which is essentially KBC and nothing other than that. And smart TV carried their content on a signet spectrum. GOtv is essentially Multichoice Kenya which is a partnership of KBC and DSTV I also think GOtv have or had contemplated this fall, reason, they have not launched a second package, what have they been waiting for? Digital TV will be successful in Kenya just not with the deadline the government assigned itself maybe with the global deadline. I think we as consumers of this products are too gullible. We are the ones who pay for services but when we are treated contrary to our expectations, we take such treatment lying low. I think we should all take such people (like SMART TV) to court and set our demands right. And on another note, can this equipment (DVB-T1) be reused maybe by changing it's firmware?
