Quite the contrary. Actually Nokia's health has shown considerable improvement. The previous 3 quarters its losses were over a billion dollars. Secondly if they were not paying the unavoidable European Union costs of downsizing then they would have actually turned a profit. So it looks they are the right track to recovery it just cant happen in one quarter. Then also don't forget that consumers have held back awaiting the WP8 phones being released next month so it was expected that WP7 phones would see dismal sales since Microsoft announced that there will be no upgrade to WP8 for WP7 devices. Finally the developer experience that Microsoft has unleashed in my opinion tops the charts. ----- Original Message ----- | From: "James Nzomo" <kazikubwa@gmail.com> | To: "Skunkworks Mailing List" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> | Cc: "skunkworks" <skunkworks@my.co.ke> | Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2012 9:46:05 PM | Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Nokia reports $754 million quarterly loss | as Lumia approaches one year anniversary | Elop is the cancer that is killing Nokia! | _______________________________________________ | In programming, as in everything else, to be in error is to be | reborn. | _______________________________________________ | 2012/10/18 Kevin Omondi < kevin.ouma@gmail.com > | | Should Nokia have just gone Android ?Check out this story from The | | Verge: | | http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/18/3517778/nokia-q3-2012-financial-report | | | _______________________________________________ | | | Skunkworks mailing list | | | Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke | | | ------------ | | | List info, subscribe/unsubscribe | | | http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks | | | ------------ | | | Skunkworks Rules | | | http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 | | | ------------ | | | Other services @ http://my.co..ke | | _______________________________________________ | Skunkworks mailing list | Skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke | ------------ | List info, subscribe/unsubscribe | http://lists.my.co.ke/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/skunkworks | ------------ | Skunkworks Rules | http://my.co.ke/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=94 | ------------ | Other services @ http://my.co.ke

Lemme paste an extract from a reader (with regards to Nokia going Android) that I think makes sense: There are alot of’ Android fans who like Nokia’s HW, but you have to look at the bigger picture here. Nokia chose WP as their platform for a number of reasons. 1) They get preferential treatment from MS. 2) Nokia has a huge mapping system that would be in direct competition with Google Maps which is another reason why Google wouldn’t lift a finger to assist them. 3) If they chose a multiplatform strategy they’d just dilute their efforts and not be the “best” on either platform. 4) There is just far too much competition in Android to make a profit with Samsung dominating that market’s mindshare. Just ask HTC, LG, and every other manufacturer how well its going, even Google’s own Motorola. (remember Sony and Huawei are in here too) 5) All of these guys are looking to diversify into not just phones, but tablet and the like. If Nokia could obtain a special partnership with MS they could get into the most coveted sector… THE ENTERPRISE and sell complete end to end solutions for tablets and phones with their customized software (watch out HP, Dell, and Lenovo they are coming). Android tablets so far have no real incentive for the enterprise and if you go with Windows, you’re almost guaranteed a shot at it. Interesting read, reminds me of the statement back in 2010 when the then Nokia VP compared joining Android to peeing in pants for warmth, he did have a fair point though. Nokia's (NOK) soon to be ex-EVP Anssi Vanjoki told the Financial Times that it wouldn't be prudent, long term, to go to Google's (GOOG) Android platform. While the initial warmth (ahem) of having a complete, modern OS would be nice initially, in the long term, they'd be relegated to the (errr) cold reality of being exclusively a hardware maker like Motorola (MOT), Samsung and HTC.To put it another way, losing control of their software destiny and relying on Android as the universal OS may lead to "permanently low profitability" with users failing to distinguish between different brands if they all offer the same experience. http://tech.fortune.cnn.com/2010/09/21/outgoing-nokia-ceo-compares-android-t... vincent wayodi

I think time will tell, but Nokia did make the right decision to stick with M$ as Windoze tablets are going to be the real threat to the iPad in the enterprise! ./Ok3ch On Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 8:36 AM, Stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com> wrote:

Google bought Motorola and Microsoft will buy Nokia. The ingredients of Apples success are ownership of the OS and the ability to fine-tune the hardware to deliver a seamless user experience, Nokia has expertise in imaging and mapping. vincent wayodi

Nokia have all things going for it in my opinion. I used a windows phone 7.5 yesterday and the fluidity and cleanliness of the interface is lovely. For the local-market at least they need to make an entry level gadget like the ideos did for the android mind share in the country. I believe chips are cheaper now and managing a 1ghz processor under 10,000/- should be attainable. But they need to stop wasting time and ship already. I barely see any windows phone being sold locally/affordably. Elops story of localization is bogus. On Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 9:14 AM, Vincent Wayodi <wayodi@gmail.com> wrote:

I have been looking for a windows phone on our local shops but couldnt find any, the next big things for developers is WP as it has a standard UI/Screen for easier development regards On Fri, Oct 19, 2012 at 9:25 AM, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:
