Sugar is an excellent piece of software, as a CRM, customer relationship Management system. If youre doing just that on it, Its great... But who does just that? there is invoicing, inventory, Warehousing, and all manner of additions ordinary businesses need that sugar does not.....

sugarcrm is great if you want to use it (out of the box) for what is mentioned on the package i.e. customer relationship management However, from a developer's perspective (1) upgrade across different product versions for a modified version may cause your install to break. Which means that with every new release, the risk of incompatibilies is higher. (2) there remains a lot of unresolved bugs across different versions which are never solved or closed out, or even actioned (3) contributing bugs, patches and fixes to the core is a roundabout process.Direction and control of the community edition is solely at the discretion of the company behind the product. (4) For a company adopting the community / proffesional editions of the same product, there is limited or little support for the community edition.As a result, the company is in competition with its ecosystem of FOSS to release a pro version which customers will pay for before the FOSS guys duplicate the functionality. @Kiti, @Areba Have you tried Vtiger CRM?? I remember playing with it a few years back and I liked it better than this Sugar! I don't know how much it has evolved now - positively or negatively. I see it's at version 5.x while I only played with versions upto 4.x, IIRC. Maybe it can address someone's requirements or even better than this Sugar as Kiti sees it. I use SugarCRM & from experience, you really need to evaluate if you need it or not. Remember with Sales people, its first never about the tool, but the people, and the people hate reporting. People have talked all manner of ills about the Sales reporting aspects (just google articles on this and you will find a wide varied views on it). To me, it presents a very practical and workable way of monitoring all sales aspects(customer, sales, marketing, reporting, accounting), but whether the Sales people actually embrace it is something else. Technically, alot of very interesting plugins out there, but don't be surprised if none works.
