Anyone know where I can get statistics on vehicle accidents in .ke?

Go to Traffic Police Headquarters - Records Office. They have them even on the walls. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler.

i would check with the Traffic Police or the Association of Kenya Insurers On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 10:52 AM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

Thanks guys. Since I seem to have an ingrained fear of Police people, I shall try the insurers first. But wait, wouldn't the insurers data be secondary? Since, I assume, it is sourced from insurance claims? My assumption being that not all accidents result in insurance claims. On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 11:03 AM, amanya <whynnot@gmail.com> wrote:

@Karunyu, Ingrained fear of the Police people? You seem to also have ingrained criminal mind<LOL> I believe you can also get the data from Police Hq (Vigilance Hse) at Harambee Avenue. Well, why don't you just call the Traffic Commandant on the phone (which you can easily find if you want) and ask him (from a far because if you get closer he might just order this ka suspicious looking suspect that is you to be looked in while they investigate) if it's even remotely possible for a civilian of your stature to be given these 'confidential' police data - never mind that no accident is confidential<LMFAO> On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 11:12 AM, Peter Karunyu <pkarunyu@gmail.com> wrote:

@Odhiambo, people tend to fear what they don't know. And I often fail to understand how the police people think and analyze things, thus my fear of them. Plus it does not help that when young and very impressionable, I was threatened with police arrest and jail time by a house help who probably did not understand how the human brain develops in kids. I have written to AKI, lets see what they say. On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 11:31 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:

Small correction, I am not collecting the data, though I wish I was, I am merely seeking out that data with the assumption that someone else has already collected it. My interest lies in the vehicles themselves. My core knowledge gap is: Which vehicle (make and model) is involved in the most accidents in Kenya, *ceteris paribus?* On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 12:10 PM, Tusker 21 <tusker212@gmail.com> wrote:

@Odhiambo, I agree with you to some extent; my list of potential accident cause agents reads thus: 1. People 2. Infrastructure; which are built, maintained (or not) and vandalized by people, thus the real cause is people 3. Vehicles; e.g. the recent case of Toyota's self-accelerating. But vehicles are still built and maintained (or not) by people 4. Nature; one might argue that human beings are invariably changing the weather patterns, but this is highly debatable. So, rephrasing my research question: Which vehicle make and model is used most by people who cause accidents? Then my secondary question would be; which vehicle make and model is involved most in accidents caused by acts of nature :-) I am afraid that the goal of my research is not so noble as to *finish *some brands, I simply want to win an argument with a colleague who trashed a certain make and model, and secondly, know which car NOT to buy as I happen to respect the mathematics of probability. Thanks @Silas, the section on traffic accidents summarized the number of accidents and provided no details about the make and model, but thanks! It was an interesting read, though saddening that all those people died. @Moses, thanks for the contact, let me procrastinate emailing him until the need surpasses the fear :-) On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 1:28 PM, Moses <mosenetk@gmail.com> wrote:

"...know which car NOT to buy as I happen to respect the mathematics of probability..." Assume your data shows NO accidents involving CAR X. You go ahead and purchase CAR X based on that assumption of safety. Could be that that particular car is SO UNSAFE, no one/few bothers to drive it any meaningful distance/at all. Think those ancient Chevrolet pickups that are now mostly used to ferry milk from farm to dairy. I guess they may not even appear in your data. They probably are the very definition of "unsafe", but their contribution to the overall is insignificant. Probox might have a high rating on your chart, but that is most probably because of the miraa drivers and their F1 antics. This is interesting, or maybe not. Vehicles don't cause accidents by themselves. I therefore declare the results of your research null and void, repugnant to the laws of nature, etc :-) Has money been poured to finish some brand in Kenya?

I believe you can also get the data from Police Hq (Vigilance Hse) at Harambee Avenue.
Well, why don't you just call the Traffic Commandant on the phone (which you can easily find if you want) and ask him (from a far because if you get closer he might just order this ka suspicious looking suspect that is you to be looked in while they investigate) if it's even remotely possible for a civilian of your stature to be given these 'confidential' police data - never mind that no accident is confidential<LMFAO>

Peter may be onto something. <puts on flame suit> Vehicle makes/models tend to VERY LOOSELY map to certain demographic groups. Think Toyota Probox (common among certain businesspeople), think Subaru Imprezas (common among certain age groups). </personal observation/opinion> That aside, the results are likely to be correct only within geographical limits, and may not apply country-wide. I'd also be a little worried about the number of errors during pen & paper data collection and compilation. On Mon, Jan 14, 2013 at 12:44 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:
