new data tariff @ Orange 3g+ : Double the databytes or half the cost @ less than half the speeds?

Signal strength : all bars, no rain etc. It has taken a sudden downturn effective today towards less than HALF the speeds! LOL! - Until Sunday 2GB datapack = 3,900/- = Speeds at 280kbps downloads/ 140kbps uploads ( kilobits per second ). - As of today morning, 4GB datapack = 3,900/- = Speeds at 96kbps - 8kbps dowloads / Did not even bother testing ( kilobits per second ). I can only laugh...... time to torrent until the 4GB package is used up. No mercy...need some iso files.

@Aki, These slow speeds have become a general phenomena since TEAMS! It's not just Orange, but almost every provider. I am beginning to think that the KES 200 Safaricom deal was actually meant to test how much they can push on the cables but in this process of testing everyone else is taking a hit. Bogus reasoning there, but it might just turn out to be true. I am using AK and downloading even 100MB now wants to take hours... -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

@Wash, two things I settled for Orange 3g+ was consistency and reliabilty. Besides the usual month end downtime for a few hours ( possibly caused by internal staff discontent... ), they have maintained uptime and speeds from day one. Do you think we are now seeing an emergence of using TEAMS to TEAM-UP against users or prove a point to Govt/Regulator that cheaper services means more complaints? Or just that configuring TEAMS is going to take a while so we can expected better services soon. Any luck with AK slow speeds and explanations they offered about the situation? me thots... :-) Rgds.

FYI : Update as of 1pm. Orange 3g+ network has now reverted back to its earlier average speeds of 280kps on downloads/140kbps on uploads. Good...

@Wash you're wrong on the KES 200 Safaricom deal:-) Gitau On Mon, Nov 2, 2009 at 11:54 AM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

I agree. That's why I said my reasoning was bogus! I was actually looking for something obvious to blame for the persistent slow speeds and, honestly, the factors around the KES 200 appeared an easy target in the absence of something credible ;-) What do you suppose is the reason behind the slowdown since TEAMS? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube
