Hey skunks, Anyone using Orange 3G noticed for the last few weeks they're not able to access bit.ly links? It only works when you go through HTTPS. I've tried to tell them what the issue is but they ask if my internet is working - to which the answer is yes but no. What could be causing such an issue on their side? Links work on other networks.

I have noticed that a number of websites hosted in the US are not accessible from Orange. I have tried to raise with them but all their customer support say is that they have escalated with their technical team. On a related note why cant companies have engineers provide support like the way it is for hosting companies or at least engineers on call for escalation its rather annoying calling a telco on a technical issue and all they ask you is to reboot your modem.. I have noticed the same too with most shortlinks not loading especially on mobile. Have raised it several times on twitter with no measurable response. As with other things I gave up and moved on to more importan matters. On Thu, Apr 3, 2014 at 11:33 AM, Kevin Omondi <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

I've learned to live with my problems, I use unshort.me and unshort.it to unshorten links. Hallo, To answer some of the questions here - the reason why engineers are not on call - is because Telcos employ very few engineers - usually less than 5 - sometimes 1 or 2 - to deal with the mobile internet data. The very main reason is cost cutting. The idea is to keep a few engineers in the network and raise only serious issues to Vendors. The problem with this is that - sometimes, the engineers kept in the network are 'token' engineers who cannot or do-not solve issues forward to them. They are mostly there to raise emails to Vendors rather than solving the issues themselves. Sometimes the Telcos get good engineers who can actually solve the issues - but are unable to keep these because they are expensive. Back to the thread at hand - when you call Orange Customer care with your issue - most of the time you hang up with disappointed amazement.

About 6 years ago I had an ADSL connection from Telkom (now Orange) and I experienced the same problem. I could not access my own website hosted in the US from that connection. It is sad to see they still have the routing issues. David. On Sat, Apr 5, 2014 at 12:20 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:

I suspected dns so i added a public dns to their connection, worked for the sites i was having issues with but there was a problem with speeds, just check how long it takes when you click link before it loads dns servers should be very fast.
