World Bank & Donor Funds : Projects and Funds Statistics Mapping

Dear Listers, If possible I'd like this thread to be fixed one. If anyone read in the papers or hears on the news of World Bank and Donor funding to Kenya and can contribute any data, it will help as I'd like to create a performance site within 12 months of data collection. This data will be purely statistical, maybe at sometime later I can build an African map. *I can start of this fixed thread :* - KICTB/Min of Information : Month June 2011 : Digitization project with Google. (Amount is unknown) - I heard on the Radio today that there is some World Bank funded project for Kenyans in Diaspora and Voting. Amount is unknown. (Amount is unknown) - Also this data is amazing : http://maps.worldbank.org/afr/kenya , literally Millions of USD in projects. Is there a typo error or does it mean that the Ladies at Akirachix received 500,000USD (or Ksh 40Million) through Min of Info? : a) Extending Mobile Applications in Africa through Social Networking - Kenya (Akirchix)P122163$0.49 millionInformation and communicationsNov-2010 - We also know from local dailies that the UK govt provided Ksh 9.7billion for the free-education. Not sure if the data is accurate but will re-check the papers. Any data contribution is most welcome. Thank you.

I googled further on the Akirachix WorldBank P122163 USD 490,000 grant but can only find that M-Farm Akirachix received USD 35,000 as a grant from InfoDev on Feb2011 through the iHub. Anyone have a breakdown of the balance of USD 455,000? Was it given to iHub or is it retained by the Min of Info for further projects by Akirachix?

Further, if any of the ladies teams is on this list who demonstrated the various HIV awareness startups Apps @Pivot25 but did not make it, please be aware of this and maybe your apps can have a chance if you approached them as your Apps fit these kind of projects. TOWA stands for Total War against AIDS, The project is supported by the World Bank and DFID with a total funding of US $113 million and counter part funds of US $ 2 million this gives it a grand total of US $ 115 million. http://www.nacc.or.ke/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=108&Itemi...

Today's news update on Radio : Kenya Shilling slides further as 5 banks exported around USD 200 million. ( Source could be CBK ? ) . Exported where? - Also, this funds research road is leading me to understand that while so unfortunately Skunks Technologists have been limited to surviving on selling containers or competing over Ksh 500 logos or even just trying to survive on Open Source services, that the economy is booming with loan money and those involved in its purchase/supply chain are the reason middle class is doing so well. There is no innovation going on, just import to retail. Innovation is just another buzz word for getting the money. - More figures and amounts on the way, as soon as the media publishes them. Also, my kind request to all skunks that if you have any friends in Donor countries, it would be nice to share the info with this thread as we map the data within the next 12 months. Rgds. Over and Out.

The iHub hasn't received any money for the Akirachix, and we have no access to these funds. From my understanding, the $492k is actually split between multiple organizations in different countries in something around $50k chunks (not sure on the exact numbers), which means there are 9-10 of them. The only funds that have come from the WB/infoDev through the iHub are for the buildout and operations of the m:lab downstairs and a research project done by Jessica and team. @Erik, thanks for the clarification. Though it is strange that the fund full amount of $492k is marked as Kenyan/Akirachix on the WB site so possibly Min of Info is retaining or that disbursement has yet to take place. Rgds. On Sun, Jul 3, 2011 at 9:55 PM, Erik Hersman <erik@zungu.com> wrote:

Hi Aki, My name is Judith, I am the president of Akirachix. I just want to clarify that Akirachix has not received $0.49 million as referred to on the World Bank site. For more information on the grant we were awarded please refer here http://www.infodev.org/en/Article.639.html Best, Judith W: http://www.akirachix.com T: @akirachixs On Mon, Jul 4, 2011 at 7:36 AM, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:

I'm no expert on World Bank funds and the rest, but this thread was to try and keep track off. Now we have a serious problem here: Both iHub and Akirchix have confirmed that they have no knowledge of such funds being allocated to them or even used by them. The World Bank site shows P122163 USD 490,000 ( close to Ksh 40 million ) grant of Nov 2010, Extending Mobile Applications in Africa through Social Networking - Kenya (Akirchix). ( http://maps.worldbank.org/afr/kenya ) Did the World Bank ever release this money, to whom and what for and why is it marked as "Extending Mobile Applications in Africa through Social Networking - Akirchix" ? Who can help us establish how these funds worked? This is a plea for help from knowledgeable persons. Rgds.

Further to this, the only info I can find is this : http://web.worldbank.org/external/projects/main?pagePK=64283627&piPK=73230&t... *Project-At-A-Glance* Approval Date <javascript:formTargetURL(%22Approval Date%22)> 17-NOV-2010 Closing Date <javascript:formTargetURL(%22Closing Date%22)> 26-APR-2013 Total Project Cost**<javascript:formTargetURL(%22Project Cost%22)> .49 Region <javascript:formTargetURL(%22Region%22)> Africa Major Sector (Sector) (%) <javascript:formTargetURL(%22Major Sector%22)> Information and communications (General information and communications sector) (100%) Themes (%) <javascript:formTargetURLforTheme(%22Themes%22)> Technology diffusion (33%) Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise support (33%) Infrastructure services for private sector development (34%) Environmental Category<javascript:formTargetURL(%22Environmental Category%22)> C Bank Team Lead <javascript:formTargetURL(%22Bank Team Lead%22)> Kelly, Timothy John Charles Borrower/Recipient<javascript:formTargetURL(%22Borrower%22)> AKIRACHIX - KENYA Implementing Agency <javascript:formTargetURL(%22Implementing Agency%22)> AKIRACHIX - KENYA On Tue, Jul 5, 2011 at 3:48 PM, aki <aki275@gmail.com> wrote:
