Sony to unveil slimmer version of Playstation 3

Sony has now officially confirmed the PlayStation 3 Slim will be on our shelves in just a few weeks. The eye-catching unit is 32 per cent smaller, 36 per cent lighter and uses 34 per cent less power than the original PS3 and is due out in the first week of September. There was no mention of any spec changes, so expect the Slim to boast a 120GB hard drive and the all-important Blu-ray drive. The new PS3 Slim will retail for 299USD,( assuming it enters the Kenyan market will possibly retail at 1000 USD) and comes with the new Playstation 3 3.00 firmware. The upgrade makes some changes to the user interface. Crucially, the PS3 Slim is also rumoured to be much quieter in operation than previous incarnations. Sony is also launching a video delivery service, via the PlayStation Network, to allow PS3 or PSP users to rent or buy films, in either standard or high definition. The service goes live in the UK this November. You can view the pics on this link http://www.flickr.com/photos/playstationblog/3833593107/in/set-7215762195158...

nice!!! but the Wii is still very cheap. Was considering waiting for this slim new boy on the block - but slim alone won't make me wait. Maybe its time to consider those stuff from Redmond even though they are my sworn enemies. ./Ok3ch On Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 3:39 PM, Kevin Ouma <kevin.ouma@gmail.com> wrote:

Okechukwu, It depends on how you look at it . You see the PS3 is not just a Game console but a full Home Media Centre that doubles up as a blu ray player( a standard blue ray player goes for about the same amount), MP3 storage Video storage and Internet console hence . If I were you would go for the Ps3 on that alone. Kevin On Wed, Aug 19, 2009 at 5:13 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

If I were you would go for the Ps3 on that alone. My thoughts exactly, but for gaming alone, I hear alot of voices in my head telling me that 300USD is too much yet I can get a Wii for half that price :-) Thanks for the advice though, coz you now brought me back to the indecision I had afew days back - and I have to make this decision in less than a week :-( ./Ok3ch

One thing that put me off from the Redmond stuff is the RROD. Apparently those machines have been certified to fail after a couple of years - no exceptions. Wii...fun and all but you cant really compare a Wii to PS3. Come on!! -Billy

4 understant that with some tweaks on the old ps3 you can install linux on the console. Will the same be possible on the slim one? On 8/20/09, Billy <billyx5@gmail.com> wrote:

Will buy this particular PS3 when they release the God Of War 3 - the fall/death of Olympus [the franchise has been getting bigger and better :-) ] ... that should get some gamers across the world psyched up to buy the PS3... Supposedly, it will be the game that will truly show the world the superiority of what a Sony PS3 can do in terms of the definition of HD. After that - I wonder if this PS3 can act as a DVR to record programs on avi or otherwise format from digital channels ? It does come with a 120 Gb hardisk doesnt it ?

Somebody ever noticed the life expectancy of the slim PS2 and bulky PS2, i found out that the older one lasted for very many years.Let us hope this doesn't happen to this beast. But i will dispose my 360 when a proper and easier modding for PS3 appears. Got word from Sony the ps3 will be launching on the Kenyan market at 55000 in 2 weeks timeand No it will not be possible to install linux on this version which I think is sad. It also only plays original dvds and blu rays which pretty cuts out 99.999 % of DVDs in the Kenyan market. On Thu, Aug 20, 2009 at 3:06 PM, ndungu stephen <ndungustephen@gmail.com>wrote:
