Online Payment System - Using Zap, M-Pesa and others online

Hi Guys, I have mentioned here before that we are working on an online gateway for Mpesa and other mobile money transfer systems. Good news, we have finally finalized on the product and will be launching on the second week of February. We are on the process of testing and finalizing documentation for the system and while at it, I would like to highlight key features of the system and probably if you have any questions or suggestions we would love to factor them into it. - We shall not handle your money, your money will go directly into your phone. - We shall not take commissions off each sale, we shall have a yearly fee of $200 - We shall have an easy to use API that is xml based so you can intergrate with any sort of web applications. Application developers can also use this. - We shall have a reseller base that will also serve as a support hub within Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. - Your online account shall have reports of all mobile transactions including withdrawals, sent and received money, meaning you can monitor your business from anywhere. - You can choose to use airtime as a mode of payment and we shall buy it back from you at a set rate. - You can sell across East Africa and soon the whole of Africa. - You will be able to sign up online, pay for the service online and start using it without having to meet anyone. - The system will be very well documented for ease of use. - We shall have our main office in Nairobi, branch offices in Dar es salaam and Kampala. - You will be the first to know of the launch venue and time and expected guests who hopefully will include Ndemo. Please let me know if there are suggestions or any questions and i will be here to answer. David Mugo -- ------------- http://blog.majibu.com

Many Congratulations! I would be interested in attending the launch. Can you categorize the description of the system from a Customer's Perspective and from a Merchant's Perspective? A couple of questions: 1. Is the $200 for Merchants or Customers or both? 2. You've said that a Customer can use AirTime, Zap, M-Pesa to purchase. I assume the transaction limits apply. I also assume the usual transaction charges would apply (especially Zap and MPesa). 8~) --- On Thu, 1/14/10, David Mugo <raidarmax@gmail.com> wrote: From: David Mugo <raidarmax@gmail.com> Subject: [Skunkworks] Online Payment System - Using Zap, M-Pesa and others online To: "Skunkworks forum" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke>, "skunkworks" <skunkworks@my.co.ke> Date: Thursday, January 14, 2010, 10:23 AM Hi Guys, I have mentioned here before that we are working on an online gateway for Mpesa and other mobile money transfer systems. The thing is we are not really handling the transactions, someone sends you money, it comes to your phone. All we are doing is attaching that transaction to an order on your shopping cart and keeping track of what is paid for and what is not. We basically are not handling the money so if you are licensed to do money transfer and you want to use our system, well and good, we are there for you. David. Just seen this: http://bit.ly/5bAl03 David Mugo, any word on the Jambo Pay?

Sincerely, I am really happy on the developments we are seeing in Kenya at this period. This tells me one thing, we are on the right track and this is the right time. I have gone through Jambopay and its a good business model but does not at all compete with our upcoming system. Ours is basically for mobile money and buyers need not to sign to our site to pay. Jambopay is an online money concept. I feel great to be here at this time...working on documentation for my system at 1:56am... soon...this is such a joy man. Anyway, we need to build each other and healthy competition is good. My aim is to develop a product that will be a household brand within 6 months. I do not have a lot of money for PR but i have strategy and I will use affiliate and referrals. David. On Thu, Jan 21, 2010 at 1:46 AM, Tony Likhanga <tlikhanga@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Guys,
I have mentioned here before that we are working on an online gateway for Mpesa and other mobile money transfer systems.

Hi Mugo, Great work. few points. Is it possible to strike a deal with local banks to issues some form of merchant accounts that allow traders to receive online payments, Im thinking of a system that works as follows:- *Authentication* 1.Client decides to purchase online and inputs Mpesa/Zap information. 2. Processing service routes mpesa information to relevant telecom company ie Safcom,Zain, Yu for authentication. 3.Processing service sends response to merchant site which then accepts or rejects purchase. *Payment* 1. Merchant company requests settlement from processing service. 2. Processing service invoices appropriate telecom company 3. Telecom company transfers money to merchant company's bank and processing company gets it's agreed processing fee. *Advantages* - By making transfers to merchant companies bank account, the company does not face limits it would face if money was being transfered to a phone. - This system would allow clients to make purchases online using mobile money details they already have, making the system open to all 8million mobile money users in the country. - By making transaction fees as a % of sales, it allows you as the processing service to get commission commiserate with volume of transactions handled

That is a good suggestion but the licensing involved is crazy. It also requires very high investments in capital and yes we are headed that direction but we need to grow from somewhere. Currently kcb is fully integrated with mpesa and am sure others are coming there soon. It will give us an advantage on the system. Yes, point taken only it will apply in the near future. A few ideas for work closely with accountants in designing a product /app stratmore uni would be a good window to link u to the real world this is what i mean how do u transform si uniletee pesa daily and si unim-pesa into si uniemail kwa m-pesa which will be your core business i.e the thousands of transactions that are done by sme's at the risk of having no paper trail your deal clincher is(from my roundabout explaination) that the business owner will have a complete record of his transactions with a fab data trail if he uses email mpesa na bado On 1/14/10, David Mugo <raidarmax@gmail.com> wrote:

Though I'm not a software developer, I've liked the whole concept of mobile applications to act as banks, especially this (as quoted from BD): *'Failure of the country to have an online payment system is curious especially because of the reasonably-bigger pool of software developers in Kenya and infrastructural support in the fibre optic cable . The delay could also be attributed to failure by banks to fully embrace the online payment system because for such a solution to work, banks must partner to clear payments.' * 2010/1/21 Richard <dechefr@gmail.com>
