Genuine IMEI Implants (GII)

As the deadline for switching off the so called fake phones approaches , i feel for the ordinary folks affected .India has worked this path before in Nov 2009 , when faced with the similar predicament they set up centres for the 20million affected subscribers to implant genuine IMEI to the handsets @ a small fee , If only we can do that in Kenya , then our regulator up their game ,We can save ordinary Kenyans the agony of buying new handsets.

But didn't I hear Dr. Ndemo on radio say that if one has a fake handset, they need to retrn it to the point of purchase for a refund provided they have a receipt for the purchase of the gadget and the importer/seller, bought it using the laid down strategies before dispatching it to the final consumer. So, IMHO, having the implants is just not the best solution. On 18/09/2012, Branton Obwari <bruceobwari@gmail.com> wrote:

@solomon which i easier or more convenient? to have an IMEI implanted or to hunt down your reciept and the shop where you bought it? What if the bugger is out of business? On Tue, Sep 18, 2012 at 9:59 AM, Solomon Mbũrũ Kamau <solo.mburu@gmail.com>wrote:

@Mark, that's a food for thought. I guess that's being between a boulder and a perimeter wall. On 18/09/2012, Mark Mwangi <mwangy@gmail.com> wrote:

Some of those "not genuine" phones do not meet safety requirements and so are harmful to the user. So I think this IMEI implant is such a bad idea. Besides, did I not hear something to the effect that the govt will compensate those who are affected? I don't know what compensate means in this context though, and I am not even sure this wasn't just a rumor. On Tue, Sep 18, 2012 at 9:41 AM, Branton Obwari <bruceobwari@gmail.com>wrote:
