Offtopic Traffic lights LEDs vs bulbs

Hi folks, First i have to apologize for this offtopic thread!. About an hour ago i saw a technician replacing what appears to me as a screw-on ordinary domestic bulb on the traffic lights at the GPO intersection. I have to say in an time where power savings are important and durability is critical - was the cost of implementing LED based traffic lights far too expensive compared to the frequent replacement of bulbs and higher power costs?. Just curious as to why we opt for ancient technology all the time. Have a pleasant day and weekend. Mich

@Mich, Wes.* ( humor )* Its most likely that the LED bulbs are "fake and cannot be used, might blind a motorist and cause an accident"...... What would be more interesting is to know the COST of purchase of that bulb that was replaced. And your rational questioning could be seen as "creating unemployment and negative to service delivery"...... while at 5pm onwards and out come the "chaos creators", the lights matter no more even if they were removed from the national stadiums and connected to a 3 phase grid, hot enough to roast a kuku within a few minutes. me thots.... :-)

You've popped something in my mind. I think there are bulbs which are designed for switching on and off multiple times (e.g. a traffic light use) and I don't think they're the normal bulbs we use at home. I hope they were not fixing the household bulbs ROFL! 8'~D --- On Fri, 10/30/09, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote: From: aki <aki275@googlemail.com> Subject: Re: [Skunkworks] Offtopic Traffic lights LEDs vs bulbs To: "Skunkworks Forum" <skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> Date: Friday, October 30, 2009, 1:56 PM On Fri, Oct 30, 2009 at 2:11 PM, wesley kirinya <kiriinya2000@yahoo.com> wrote: "...Just curious as to why we opt for ancient technology all the time..." Seriously you guys are cracking me up ... lol . Thinking of it do we really need traffic lights . I think we have it good See the link below and take a moment to appreciate and reflect on how " seamless the traffice flow is " without use of traffic lights. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GsPCsW3_aUY Have a lovely weekend Vince 2009/10/30 [ Brainiac ] <arebacollins@gmail.com>
