I'm glad the boys and girls in blue overalls have been working real hard to fix the problem in Westlands. No power since 8AM and they finished at 10PM. I have a problem with them though. On return, i waited a while for power to stabilize, powered my UPS's on and then powered machine on, HD's and 20 mins down the line.. UPS's go taking my Externals with them. I've lost just about everything i've collected. Including most of my design and photo work. I do have backups. BUT NOT THE POINT! How can a spike take out everything.. EVERYTHING! even though there's a surge protector on Both the UPS's i'm using? BTW> UPS's are set up in parallel to enjoy maximum efficiency and load coverage when power goes out. AAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!! and i can't even sue them for this... Can i? all drives and equipment are insured. -- ...and I shall shed my light over dark evil. For the dark things cannot stand the light.

@Rahim, whatever happened to the KPLC grid to have caused as much damage as you write below is nothing short of a direct lightning hit and within a range of micro-seconds. Assuming there was no such electrical storms over the area at the time, I believe KPLC have a case to answer. Though it may be negligence but not intent on their part, I think you should write an official note to them about the destruction of your property and follow up with the area managers. If all this fails, I believe you should seek legal advice on the matter. Your equipment maybe insured and a reputable insurer will also want some answers from KPLC. Either way, you do not have any reason to destroy your own equipment and claim damages. I'm certain the UPS internal components will show the the full scale of a massive power surge. HTHs. walalala. The surge blew two ups and all your gear? I can't even imagine what that was like. Pole sana. And we should be glad you are alive. That blow out sounds nasty! -- Pamoja e:daudi.were@gmail.com <e%3Adaudi.were@gmail.com> skype: d.were

@Aki. Thanks for the advice. After multiple hate calls to KPLC, that does sounds like a better option. @Daudi. The pain cannot be explained. Lost approx 2TB worth of Photos, Dev RND and Designs. Heartwrenching. Will write more and keep posted. A moment of silence for my fallen equipment. May the force be with them :( On Fri, Nov 19, 2010 at 8:32 AM, Daudi Were <daudi.were@gmail.com> wrote:

Guys, Did you know that KPLC pays for damaged electronics resulting from their surges? I have previously claimed a fridge from them and I got paid after a short hussle. Its something they do not like taking to the public so they take care of it very quickly. David. On Fri, Nov 19, 2010 at 9:40 AM, Watchman <skunkingrahim@gmail.com> wrote:

Of course they can never estimate the cost of data, but they will replace the equipment. Same analogy, they will replace your fridge and not the food in it - easy pizzy ./Ok3ch On Fri, Nov 19, 2010 at 9:49 AM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

.... may be the "surgr-protectness" of your setup was flawed by the way you'd connected the two UPS's in parallel... may be you instead need to hook them up in series [the math surrounding current and voltage is easier to calc in that case... perhaps the parallel setup halved the surge-protectness of each.... or something like that.] i'd suggest you speak to an engineer about how best to setup your gear to protect them [and yourself] from such a power-surge again... that was nasty On 11/19/10, Alvin Jason Ochieng <ajochola@gmail.com> wrote:
