Hi Gideon, Or should I say yang blood. There is something called soft skills. A very vital ingredient for success in today's world. If you have good soft skills, it will enable you to; 1. Have good presentation skills Your subject should just introduce the content of your letter, it should not be the letter! Think about what it is you want your mail to achieve. 2. Use polite language You are seeking for some place to explore your field? You think my company is just a place ? Hell, this place pays my bills!!! It may not be important to you but it is to me. 3. Not assume that we know what you are looking for We know you need an internship or a job. Ask for one clearly, in life you only get what you ask/negotiate for, not what you deserve. So you have all these papers but you come across as being this sloppy? As an employer, I won't allow you to touch any of my servers or routers. Period. I am telling you all this the same way I'd advice my small bro. Am not just flaming you.And it is pure gold by the way. I should charge you for this advice! I hope utasaidika. Hey Gideon, You know lately the IT business has become a commodity business, and for you to have any meaningful impact, you need to hone you people skills which are now becoming more important than technical skills. You need to show an employer why the should have you in the their IT department rather than some soulless technician working in some outsourcing company somewhere maybe even in India or Kazakhstan or even Timbuktu. The reason why companies and employers have IT departments is for these kind of skill, not the technical ones, but I am not saying technical skills are invalid but they are just part of the package. And they are willing to pay a premium for them. Otherwise they could just Google or Bing. Cheers.

Most of us I.T. people have problems expressing ourselves to Lawyer/Banker standards. That doesn't mean we're not good at what we do. I worked in a cyber cafe when I was 13, I didn't know what a router and a LAN was, but I knew that all IPs should point to the server and that signing out "makes people not able to see your info"... And Gideon is trained on the mumbo-jumbo explaining all the tech so I think that attitude is what keeps the people with 6 years experience in the field and locks out all the young bloods. But this is typically acceptable iff you are already hired and have proven yourself. To get into the door and go further than the sitting room into the corridors of power e.g CxO levels, you need those other skills.Or even just to simply be an effective team player (which count in these days of layoffs), your soft skills count. I worked in a cyber cafe when I was 13, I didn't know what a router and a LAN was, but I knew that all IPs should point to the server and that signing out "makes people not able to see your info"... And Gideon is trained on the mumbo-jumbo explaining all the tech so I think that attitude is what keeps the people with 6 years experience in the field and locks out all the young bloods.
Gideon, I would suggest that you seek training first and foremost. Let the money come later. Get all your skill sets on some real stuff, real comps, real users, mess up a few times. But as soon as you've got your act together, and you should if you were meant for IT, then you can go out and make demands for your services as you were advised.

The reason why companies and employers have IT departments is for these kind of skill, not the technical ones, but I am not saying technical skills are invalid but they are just part of the package. And they are willing to pay a premium for them. Otherwise they could just Google or Bing.
