I was at Safcom offices to register a sim card earlier today and I feel there is a flaw with the process. A guy came in and said he wants to register his brother's number. All he had with him was the brothers phone number and ID number and he was able to register the phone. Mind you, he didnt have the *physical** *ID Number. He was reading it from the phone. With the easy access to people's ID numbers and other details right now I fear crooks can use this route to register phone numbers to unsuspecting citizens. Also, CCK should come up with a way through which users can confirm which phone numbers are registered to their ID.

This is NOT possible, unless things have changed! It's mandatory to fill a form and attach a copy of the ID. If this was not followed, then I even wonder why you had to wait to raise it on the list when actually you should have raised an objection right where this was happening! Are you one of those Kenyans who wait for others to "do things for them"?? You witnessed such a serious issue and all you could do is run to skunkworks to report? :-) On Mon, Jan 28, 2013 at 12:22 PM, Tech List Kenya <techlistkenya@gmail.com>wrote:

I also registered my card at the safcom office, Moi Avenue. The safcom attendant uses some USSD (I think it was *180#) to register the number. He asks you for the phone number and ID.
