Yu Amua Tarriff: failure to launch

Yu just launched a new tariff and took the call rates closer to zero, but rather as a benefit to the customer, I would see it more as a reaction to a failure to launch. Most of those who use their network use it as a secondary network and ONLY for Yu to Yu free sms, thus cannibalizing the network. The tariff is more of an attempt to relaunch their network. I think their main problem has been failing to focus on the small things. Their data network has issues outside of Nairobi, requiring an alternative even for simple facebooking.how will youth adopt it if they can't facebook on their phones and have to keep changing Sim cards. I think they should have focused more on data for individual and corporates and introductory offers for calls to safaricom where most of the subscribers are. By a traditional call prioritised roll out, they are just playing catch up to another 3 networks. It doesn't help when you ask about and realise their data is poor. If I were them, I would make sure our few customers had nothing but praise for whatever service they use. -- Sent from my mobile device with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Sterotyping: Abednego, tell the tribe by the name; visit the blog : http://gramware.blogspot.com

Unfortunately data is not their priority considering they are still rolling out... On Tue, Nov 17, 2009 at 5:22 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

Out of curiosity has the interconnection fee has come down? Didn't Zain try this at 8 bob a minute and fail?

They've reduced this to 6bob. We can only wait and see...They pulled it off for free SMS though in the new tariff they are charging 1bob for on-net and 3.50 for off-net

At this point in time, data is a very critical factor to ignore esp in urban areas. its like a new bakery selling unsliced bread or bread without wrappers and claiming that that is not critical at that point of their business. Point is there is so much low tariffs can help, you have to find a niche elsewhere. Safaricom already killed that with Supa Ongea. It won't be long before they are kings of Data (ie if they aren't) -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Sterotyping: Abednego, tell the tribe by the name; visit the blog : http://gramware.blogspot.com
