Unfortunately data is not their priority considering they are still rolling out...
Yu just launched a new tariff and took the call rates closer to zero,
but rather as a benefit to the customer, I would see it more as a
reaction to a failure to launch.
Most of those who use their network use it as a secondary network and
ONLY for Yu to Yu free sms, thus cannibalizing the network. The tariff
is more of an attempt to relaunch their network.
I think their main problem has been failing to focus on the small things.
Their data network has issues outside of Nairobi, requiring an
alternative even for simple facebooking.how will youth adopt it if
they can't facebook on their phones and have to keep changing Sim
cards.
I think they should have focused more on data for individual and
corporates and introductory offers for calls to safaricom where most
of the subscribers are.
By a traditional call prioritised roll out, they are just playing
catch up to another 3 networks.
It doesn't help when you ask about and realise their data is poor. If
I were them, I would make sure our few customers had nothing but
praise for whatever service they use.
