@Phares, yes insightful and true way of how things are going to be IMHO. Tablet front Amazon is going to be a big time player and phone front its gonna be Android (motorola+google??), iOS and Windows (Nokia+Microsoft). Opera Turbo works majorly on the concept of proxy server. As for Silk, it's the same basic idea, but done with several improvements and optimizations for mobile devices. It's like saying "The iPhone is just a phone." its several things: cache, predictive cache, content optimization (image compression, etc.). A good amount of the content is pre-processed in the cloud rather than the browser. The only downside I see is that the optimisation is made for a specific platform: kindle fire. They even mentioned 'last mile' connection but since the Kindle Fire has no 3G. That's a major #FAIL IMHO. ./bernard On Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at 10:38 AM, Kelvin <kjayanoris@gmail.com> wrote:

Having been an avid user of Amazon sometime back, I am certain they will ship millions of this things. The Amazon experience is just something to behold. Amazon has also perfected the system for free/almost free shipping and does not need to spend gazillions on having physical retail stores like apple. I won't be surprised if they sell millions of the tablet on the launch day. But theirs basically is a content play which leaves me wondering whether they will be able to generate substantial profits from digital downloads alone while subsidizing the Kindle Fire. Google has to make massive improvements in their UI, and come up with a cloud strategy that will be convincing enough for partners and consumers. However, I believe this is the point where antitrust will kick in, when Android comes integrated with Google's own cloud offerings.

@Lusiola - just saw that, I think this positioning thing is starting to happen big time, now if they get screwed on Android side, they have M$ to fall back to, and possible invest 50-50 think its a good move for them, and the consumer also benefits. ./Ok3ch On Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at 11:27 AM, Brian L <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:

:) you have an iPad so I think you don't need it, unless you want the great battery life and the e-ink read-in-the-sun I also have the PC Kindle app, android kindle app as well, but much easier reading off the Kindle. As you said, one shouldn't compare iPad to Kindle as they (at least before yesterday) target different segments. Let's wait to see how this Kindle Moto plays out -- Josiah Mugambi On Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at 12:33 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

@Lusiola - just saw that, I think this positioning thing is starting to happen big time, now if they get screwed on Android side, they have M$ to fall back to, and possible invest 50-50 think its a good move for them, and the consumer also benefits.

Battery life + readability... Battery last's two weeks, and it's dedicated for reading... I, sadly, upgraded my Kindle at the beginning of the week for the price of the latest one :-(. -- With Regards, Phares Kariuki | T: +254 720 406 093 | E: pkariuki@gmail.com | Twitter: kaboro | Skype: kariukiphares | B: http://www.kaboro.com/ |
