Hi all, I have installed linux mint 10 from a recently downloaded cd version iso on an old clone machine and having some problem: 1. If i set the a screen saver time out with a locked screen the computer logout the session after the time has elapsed logging in have no trace of the last running programs. 2. The current resolution is 4:3 1024x768 when i try to change it to 800x600 the comp logs out and doesn't reflect the changes. 3. I have installed wine. On running it, just before the window is created the it logs out the session. could this be a graphics driver issue it has S3 inc. VT8375 vga controller. Help is much appreciated N/B: Machine is up to date as per update manger. I also tried lxde desktop but the above is still the case. -- *"One who ask questions is a fool for five minutes one who doesn't is a fool forever."*

Since no answers are forthcoming, here is a suggestion: Try another distro on this piece of junk hardware and see what becomes, then you can make a decision:-) On Wed, Mar 21, 2012 at 10:50, nerdalf james <nerdalf@gmail.com> wrote:

I suspect Zenwalk Linux [ http://www.zenwalk.org/ ] will work for you. It is based on Slackware so be prepared to work with a text (Curses) based installer. Martin.

A different disto will have to be a last result coz I will have to change this for another 6 machine for standardisation purposes. :-( @maina I am using gnome and had also tried lxde with no luck. specs: celeron 1.70GHz ram 512 DDR DIMM graphics S3 prosavage DDR connected to a sahara 17' TFT -- *"One who ask questions is a fool for five minutes one who doesn't is a fool forever."*

This could be a graphics driver issue.Linux mint 12 has support for more drives, why don't you upgrade to that? Does the issue affect all 6 computers? Do they have the same specs? Try testing the live C.D you used for installation on a different model of machine and see whether you have the same problem. On 21 March 2012 12:42, nerdalf <nerdalf@gmail.com> wrote:

The upgrade to mint 11 worked I don't know why i dint think of this earlier.Thanks. The only notable changes on the graphics driver is the version 1.2 mesa 7.9 to 1.2 mesa 7.10.2 is there a command to update a graphics driver alone on mint/linux? this is for reference purposes.

sudo apt-get install <package name>. If a newer version is available it will be downloaded and installed otherwise you will get the output "<package name> is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 0 not upgraded" On 23 March 2012 09:36, nerdalf <nerdalf@gmail.com> wrote:

I tried mint 11 live cd and am able to change the resolution probably an upgrade will fix it. Will keep you posted after the installation. -- *"One who ask questions is a fool for five minutes one who doesn't is a fool forever."*
