I was told selling a (dot)COM domain name as private owner and for profit in Kenya is illegal ?
I am selling a .COM domain names. Note I am a private owner, living in Kenya. I was just told that "individuals dont have the right to sell domains, unless they are licensed by the CCK or a similar institution of reckon, to do so.." Hard to believe !! Anyway I checked on KENIC website and it's all about .KE domain names. So, please shed some light for me Thanks

The question is: Is it true that registered owner of .COM domain names with residency in Kenya can not sell domain names at profit to another person with residency in Kenya ? I was just trying to sell a .COM at profit on a group in Facebook and was told it is illegal unless you are a licensed whatever at KENIC I could understand for .KE cctld but really surprised that it applies to main ccTLD. I haven't hear of any such law. The Internet is not confined to Kenya. As a matter of fact, there is no set of Internet rules/laws that prohibit the sale of any domain name from one party to the other. I don't know of any and I cannot imagine why any would ever come into existence. If you own a domain name and someone else is interested in buying it, you do not need to seek anybody's consent. Simply transact the financials and then login into the domain registry and do the necessary changes to transfer ownership. If anyone asks you why you did it, I'll be willing to hold brief as your lawyer - for there is no legal obstacle to any such transaction, on earth as it is in heaven:) Even for a .KE, you can sell your domain as you wish. In my knowledge, the only reason on "earth in heaven" that could block a transaction is trademark and/or copyright infringment issue, e.g. buying domain/typodomain for doing similar business than tradermark/competitive business or for a purpose than may damage trademark reputation.
