Is there anyone who knows how much Software developers should earn per man-hour in Kenya?

Hi Skunkers Is there anyone who knows how much Software developers should earn per man-hour in Kenya? Is there a standard rate also per line of code? I will appreciate your response on this. Best -- Jackson Gathoni

Funny you should ask this now... Simply put, IMHO, the range is as big as the heavens are from the earth. A graduate fresh from school can get around 20k, a pro with many years experience can get 100 times that. I've also noticed that specialties in some platforms tend to command a higher pay, for example, a uber good Java developer will basically demand bigger paycheck than a PHP developer. I am convinced that Java and .Net developers and Oracle gurus get to ask for and get higher paychecks, compared to PHP and MySQL devs. But note that this is based on my very limited research. Also consider that some organizations by default pay their people ridiculous amounts on money, on both ends of the scale. So finally, to answer your questions: Do I know how much software developers should earn per man hour in Kenya? Nope. Is there a standard rate per LOC? Nope. Jackson, It depends on the company/client budget but the price ranges from between Ksh. 750 to Ksh.1,500 per man-hour. That is what we charge clients ourselves. Allan Ouma P.O. Box 12731 Nairobi 00400 Kenya

I think what application/system you're developing and what techniques and tools you are bringing in should have a lot in determining the remuneration. This is just an opinion, I don't figures on this.... On Fri, May 18, 2012 at 1:30 PM, Collins Areba <arebacollins@gmail.com>wrote:

Thanks Guys for the feedback guys, maybe I need to put in more details so that I can get more accurate answer. The coding involved is for developing a sms short code system which I believe it is not complicated as such. What would you pays a developer working on such a task for example? Who has done a short-code system and how much did it cost? I am not looking for an exact figure but a range will do. Best

Hi, The coding involved is for developing a sms short code system which I believe it is not complicated as such: Depend on what the system accomplishes; what logic happens on the database and logic end??Does it just inpu/output or does it perform a complex task like running an algorithm; USSD or SMPP SMS etc. what language is it being developed in Java, PHP, .NET, python etc should also dictate what costs you will incur. The programmers experience will also matter. Getting a kid from school to code it will not compete with lets say to get Bernard Mwagiru or Brian Marete to code for you. I believe some figures willl not be worth their time. My two cents to you is to sit down with your developer, get the system scope and compensate him based on his competence, experience and availability of funds.
