Greetings Team, What do you think of the new subscription packages published by Multichoice Kenya? Last kicks of a dying horse? Is the future on-demand video over Internet? Warm regards, Michael Bullut. --- *Cell:* *+254 723 393 114.**Skype Name:* *Michael Bullut.* *Twitter:* * @Kipsang <http://twitter.com/Kipsang/>* *Blog: http://www.kipsang.com/ <http://www.kipsang.com/>* *E-mail:* *main@kipsang.com <main@kipsang.com>* *---*

Dstv will remain mainly for the old folks & technophobes who either don't care about streaming and new tech or are afraid of change. They'll be profitable for many more years but eventually as internet speeds increase, their profits will slowly decline if they don't change their model. If for instance they let us pay for just the 5 channels I want, Sports + Discovery and charge me something like 2k, they'd be good. Personally, haven't paid for Dstv in 2 years, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon & Kodi forever, total per month around 2k. It's true streaming sports on Kodi is sometimes flaky (blame zuku), but it beats paying almost 10k per month to watch 2-3 games only. Regards, John K. I'd say it's random. Week before last I watched almost an entire match in HD, no issues. Last weekend's game first half was ok in HD, second half was horrible, stuttering and buffering all over. Since it's a p2p stream, the issue could also be with whoever is streaming the content, so it's quite difficult to know where the problem lies. Or, the issue could be with Zuku's speeds. I'm on R50. John K. put it perfectly. The business model needs to change. I, for example would do fine with 10-20 channels of MY choice, even from their limited selection. I bet I'd pay a good premium too. Besides, what's the point of digital if you really don't have a choice? Is it that difficult to implement? Have the rates changed in SA? DSTV is incorporated in SA and they report in Rand. Over the past quarter the shilling has lost value against the dollar, but so have almost all other currencies in the world. Only the Malawi Kwacha has strengthened against the US dollar. So, if the shilling has strengthened against the Rand, and the SA subscribers haven't had their rates hiked, what is cooking? When you convert the KES to USD and the USD to ZAR they make money there because the dollar has significantly strengthened against the Shilling & the Rand. Why don't they denominate the subscription on Rand equivalents? If that were the case Kenyans would be paying less than the current rate. Way back in the day just when Dstv came in, I heard KBC (formely VoK) used to take a cut of I think ~2,000/- off every monthly payment per subscriber, which was the explanation for how in SA the premium bundle was ~2,500, and in Kenya started of at ~ 5,000. Though I'm by now a deal like that must have been thrown out. Regards, John K. On 3 September 2015 at 16:25, Edwin Onyango Owino via skunkworks < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:

Been off this DSTV thing for a while now. Besides the price, it makes children anti-social, and fail to concentrate with school work. My other housemates were also too preoccupied with the movies. Been paying during holidays only. With the new rates its now a done deal. I am glad I made a better choice. And what about all the foreign advertising on DSTV? Is there a way that they can target advertise for each and every country? If they can do good revenue from the likes of Safaricom and other marketing hungry companies maybe they can have a friendlier rate. When you convert the KES to USD and the USD to ZAR they make money there because the dollar has significantly strengthened against the Shilling & the Rand. Why don't they denominate the subscription on Rand equivalents? If that were the case Kenyans would be paying less than the current rate.

Multichoice is not short off adverts, i beleive they are actually spoilt of choice. They do major multinational companies & corporation adverts in their different channels with respect to target groups. They are just greedy, not considerate to their subscribers, and taking advantage of their monopoly. Their hefty subscription fees they collect can sustain the company operations alone without adverts. If you have lived in the middle east checkout Bein sports (then Aljazeera sports) packages, quite friendly to their subscribers. Both satelite and IP tvs. Hujuma, wa-africa sisi ndo twaumia. Bravo

Alex thank you for sharing the link. Do I have to pay via PayPal for cloud TV. I can't seem to get an alternative such as a credit card. By the way I have downloaded the android app to my phone. The trial premium content is dope. Cheers, Alex Gabriel 0721987441 On Sep 11, 2015 8:52 AM, "Alex Nyalita via skunkworks" < skunkworks@lists.my.co.ke> wrote:
