Well, in the past 12 months, Google has been fail. Seriously, I see something wrong there. It has been awhile since I even logged onto Google +, why? Its damn heavy and not fun. I'm not a sales/marketing person... :-) I believe the problem is not Mocaility's data because this data is already published in the public domain therefore it is open to any data mining of sorts without the need for any consent from Mocality or for that matter anyone else who publlishes their data on the internet for public use. The matter of copyright data comes in when the data is used say in distribution purposes. Sales and marketing teams world wide use such databases for cold calling etc, the equivalent comparison is a marketing person going through yellow pages to create the markets for themselves. There is no crime in this, and neither is scraping of already public data. Infact it's the companies that are listed in public data that get the exposure from such marketing stand to benefit. Mocality owns that data and its formats but cannot limit anyone on its free use as its a directory service. If Mocality directory services was username/password protected and Google people broke into protected data then it would be a case of data hacking. I've dealt with scraping in the early days when I installed the computers site that I maintain, and simply blocked ip addresses that I suspected of such activity. Not because they were doing the wrong thing as the site already was public but were creating unnecessary huge traffic to the site that did not fall under the site's program. I believe the problem is not Mocaility's data because this data is already published in the public domain therefore it is open to any data mining of sorts without the need for any consent from Mocality or for that matter anyone else who publlishes their data on the internet for public use. Reverse Engineering comes in many forms... :-)
The problem Mocality have with Google people is that these people used Mocality's company name to create the illusion of a partnership or representation, without the consent of the Mocality. This is very close to corporate identity theft and borders near fraud. I don't see why the Google people did not tell the client's that they were cold calling etc and thus did not have to use Mocality's name which makes no difference to the marketing people. Infact Google holds a better brand name than Mocality in many ways. I also don't understand why should any business client ask a caller how they got the contact when they are publicly listed whether on the internet directory service, yellow pages etc. After all, the business client can say no to any business proposals and if they feel they need privacy, they should not be listed.
Was some from from within Mocality involved in the use of Google's name for the web project? There is a lot that does not make any sense at the moment.
