Want to run a Mac on a P.C without running a Mac?

But run an Ubuntu Linux-based distro? [ http://www.pear-os-linux.fr/ ] The Gnome 3.2 UI variant looks very polished :D Knock yourselves out! Martin.

Hope the apple lawyers stay out of this one ... :)..but nice i think this will be the major kick off Linux has been waiting for .... lets wait and see. On Mon, Jan 16, 2012 at 11:05 AM, Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com>wrote:

Dream Linux has quite an awesome UI albeit quite unstable [ http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=dreamlinux ]. It is Debian-based too and geared for Desktop / Multimedia use. Martin.

I dunno about you folks but that distro is like a cheap Chinese imitation of OSX. _______________________________________________ *Without requirements or design, programming is the art of adding bugs to an empty text file.* _______________________________________________ * * 2012/1/16 Martin Chiteri <martin.chiteri@gmail.com>

Of course it's not OS X, James. What did you expect? To have Darwin kernel running on your PC? Just like that? This must be Linux, covered in a skin to make it look like some OS X reincarnate, or something. Can't you see it's a "Pear", not "Apple"?:) On Mon, Jan 16, 2012 at 15:36, James Nzomo <kazikubwa@gmail.com> wrote:

@James, give the creators of the two distros some credit. I do not think their work is a mean feat. I also doubt either you or me can achieve the same quite easily. After all, Ms VISTA and Seven are clear imitations of Mac OS X and I hear nobody complain. If the end-users like the systems, so be it. Martin.

Maybe guys are trying out the distros and then spill their opinions out after reasonable usage. It will be interesting to see their evaluations. Martin.

Actually the fuel for the thread is missing a spark in the form of Aki. any. most proxies run on squid, which is distro independent. as well most firewalls use iptables, again... platform independent. On Mon, Jan 16, 2012 at 4:21 PM, Shadrack Mwaniki < shadrack_mwaniki@yahoo.com> wrote:

@Shadrack, If you don't mind another OS, then one of the easiest and fastest ways of getting a Firewall and Proxy running is by use of pfSense<http://pfSense.org>(which is based on FreeBSD). On Mon, Jan 16, 2012 at 16:21, Shadrack Mwaniki <shadrack_mwaniki@yahoo.com>wrote:

In my experience, everything works so long as you are comfortable with the platform and know what you want and what you are doing. For instance, when I started doing office servers, I was introduced or directed to SME Server. Nowadays I would rather set up an OS platform and configure everything from scratch rather than take the a bundled platform that speeds up some setups. Even if it is for five users, yes 5 users Same case for you, you can choose the bundled setups; Zenytal, PFsense, etc, or you can set up a server and install all packages individually. Personally Im a fan of the latter option ...and I see no talk of overkill for deciding to install CentOS n then run your stuff on it. Dream Linux has quite an awesome UI albeit quite unstable [ http://distrowatch.com/table.php?distribution=dreamlinux ]. It is Debian-based too and geared for Desktop / Multimedia use.
