Hi everyone, I'm curious about smartphone updates. Akin to PC updates (the bane of Microsoft Os's) we all hear of phone specific updates and the more important OS (Android in this case) releases. I currently use a HTC phone and have been aware that an Android update has been released for it in November last year,it was made available to South Africa in April but no other information was forthcoming. Does anyone have experience updating their smart phones in Kenya,or know a convenient way to get around the official release wait time? Thanks -- Claude A. D'souza

To get regular releases on smartphones Running Android you need to be on the really high end devices better known as the flagships. Else get the nexus series which will always get an update straight from Google. The rest have to wait for ages or never get updates at all. Especially Sony mobiles. Or you could go the Cynogen mod way where you get custom built OSs by random developers allover the globe. On Mon, Aug 12, 2013 at 2:29 PM, Claude D'souza <claudedsouza1@gmail.com>wrote:

Well, OTA firmware updates are normally rolled out by regions. I have seen this with Nokia and Samsung. However, if your vendor provides a software-based updater, then this more often has no sense of regions and can give you the updates much faster. I currently use Google Nexus 4 (which is region-less) and I got the 4.3 update about a week or two back! Your best bet with HTC might be to do computer-based update. I am not sure though...
