I have read some blog entry by one, Moses Kemibaro, and it shows/proves that Orange 3G is the fastest in Kenya. Well, maybe at that time, but has anything changed since October 2011? I did use Orange 3G in Mombasa last year and yes, it was much faster than Safaricom. Today, Safaricom have taken out a full page Ad touting their 3G as the "fastest". If not just marketing gimmick, I'd like to understand what Safaricom means with "fastest" when the statistics out there put Orange as the "fastest". Safaricom's "fastest" 3G modem (Huawei E1820) is stuck at KES 9,999 retail price for almost 2 years now. Kwani they don't know prices of electronic gadgets need to come down fast? Just the other day, they punguzad the price of Nokia N9 from 69,999 to 55,999. They should reduce the price of this modem, I demand. Orange, OTOH, started with their modem at 7,000 and quickly moved it to 3,500 and I think now it's probably less. And now that we have the wars of who is "fastest", who is going to push them to spread these "fastest" speeds to cover the whole country, not just a few areas? -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler. This discussion always stops when it comes to that part of countrywide coverage, eh? I would say its better to have '3G' speeds everywhere I catch the Safaricom 3G signal, and from experience I can say its very reliable, rather than have a fleeting instance of 'super speed' somewhere near an operators office, otherwise elsewhere it's nothing. Those 'fastest' speeds, I have come to find out, are meant for dazzling customers after some grand launch, otherwise they are unavailable when you need them, say in a hotel room in Kisumu or Embu, etc etc... Washington, I think 'most reliable' would be a better term than 'fastest'!Think about this, even though I hear many good stories about Orange 3G,I can only use it in the CBD but when I get home I have to use something else simply because there is no reception where Iive!Ilive in Lang'atta and as many would argue, this is very close to the city! Why would Orange not have proper coverage here? Scenario number two - if you need to use the connection away from Nairobi, don't even think about another service provider unless you intend to subject yourself to untold frustration!I do not like Safaricom myself ever since they discovered the term 'unlimited internet' could be used to describe 'Capped at a theoretical 512Kbps' and 'actual speeds of 6Kbps to 61Kbps' - add that to intermittent disconnections! But what options do I have?CCK seems to have forgotten all together why consumers need to be protected - we are on our own here! It's easier for Orange to put all those 10 E1's on a single 21Mbps site coz they own and operate their own fibre network, from back in the day. But it will still cost them more than it's worth in the final analysis. On the other hand , kina Safaricom and Airtel have to lease this capacity from....guess who and who and who? yeah, and the price per circuit is not that friendly. So for the operator who knows what they are on about, 21Mbps is not so hot at the moment after all....
