Any one else got this notice? --- *Subject:* FW: Fault on Major International Gateway Dear Client, We’ve received communication from our backbone providers, *TEAMS* and*Seacom *, that there currently is a fault with the *South East Asia-Middle-West Europe 4* *(SMW4)* cable used to connect our internet communication into Europe, North and South America (SMW4) between Alexandria & Marseilles. This requires urgent maintenance by SMW4 consortium to be carried out *between 24th *April 2010* and 28th *April 2010 During the maintenance the ship has to locate the cable, make the adjustment and drop it back into sea. As all ship related work is highly dependent on the environment (Wind, Rain, Snow etc.) there may be deviation from the above planned maintenance window. *Map of SEA-ME-WE-4 Fibre Undersea Cable* Throughout this exercise, there will be disruption of *Internet traffic for the entire East Africa region*. I've gotten a similar notice from our provider. They say they'll arrange for a re-route though we should expect to get slower speeds. I guess that means traffic is back on jumboNet Gateway right? If I were a Somali pirate I would hijack a piece of fiber cable and demand a ransom or threaten to cut it.(:-)=)

Teams is acceptable as it was a half circuit to begin with. Seacom?!! also a half circuit, I did not know that ( were they peddling marketing info, what a no no..errrgh! ) Then Teams was far more cheaper than Seacom. BTW, since we are on this topic, what did teams bandwidth costs come down to? The targetted 120USD/Mbit compared to Seacom of 420USD/Mbit? Not sure of the figures, corrections welcome.

Everything is possible.... If I really wanted to, i'd locate the ships locating the fiber. Then I'd know where the fiber is right?.

All what matters to me as a client is that am up and my businesses can perform all international transactions without delay. Yes there is a slight change in speeds but am not badly off.
