Just for the records, I've used the following options for online purchases while in Kenya without a hitch. 1. Credit Card. 2. KCB General Purpose Card (Prepaid Card) 3. Paypal account linked to '2' above And soon to be tested: Airtel Money Virtual Master-Card.

I've used my CFC Stanbic Credit Card (MasterCard) but I have never loved it when they deduct the money from my account! They use crazy conversion rates - like all banks, unless I am sleeping on my ears - when there is a better option out there. Some banks were reported by the Cofek to be selling the dollar to their customers at more than 100 KES long before the shilling touched 93.

The only way to avoid the mad bank rates would be to run a dollar account. I have recently acquired the I&M bank card which is touted as an international travel card for the simple reason that you can get dollars from wherever and deposit that. it is a dollar account Saves you something and the beauty is that it is virtual hence they will only need your ID/PP and minimum of USD60 to open. you have an option of text notify at 12 Kshs and 1USD charge for ATMs that are not theirs. db On 24 September 2011 14:07, David Nyamboki <tchadavey@gmail.com> wrote:

Apologies for double posting ;). For the sake of reference... I received the notification below from KCB. <snip> We are pleased to inform you that you are able to transfer funds from your M-PESA directly to your KCB Card. This is very convenient, as you will be able to pay your Credit Card Bill from the comfort of your office/home. To load your KCB Card go to the “Paybill” option in MPESA and enter the Business Number 522522 then enter your Full VISA Card Number. The funds are credited into your Card Account in 30 minutes. <snip>
