Kenya electricity infrastructure. Single point of failure?

Im sure many might have noticed a blackout this evening, what you may not know is its virtually country wide. Doesnt this pose a serious security issue, that a single point can fail and all of kenya goes into black out mode? Any neural network engineers maybe? -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBQ2o0LcmnQ&feature=PlayList&p=B41970323E7D1E...

This is not only a security threat, but calls for a need to diversify our electricity source. Didn't I hear, the other day KPLC posting profits in their financial statements? On 01/11/2009, Billy <billyx5@gmail.com> wrote:

I think KenGen is to blame not KPLC.

and i think this is the 2nd or 3rd time in an year it has happened. any one planning a coup, you now know where to hit -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Maybe we should start a Reality show of collapsing buidlings: http://gramware.blogspot.com

2nd one in 18 months actually according to the Daily Nation, And gentlemen, to fix that, we will need 3.8 billion shillings for a control centre we lack, an ammount the government can't afford. Maybe we should talk to CMC motors to supply it with monthly payments. On the same note, be reminded that our power is so expensive that Cement transported from most countries in the world to teleposta towers will still end up cheaper that cement at Bamburi's Cement warehouse. so what happens to data centres competing with others paying 6 times lower the bill? where is our energy policy? -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Maybe we should start a Reality show of collapsing buidlings: http://gramware.blogspot.com

@denis, its squarely on KPLC cause if it were kengen, we would be talking sporadic blackouts since generation infrastructure is varied. What we have here is a problem of load balancing and transmission at that. Shame on them even trying to get into data business when their primary assignment has failed. @Areba, whether enough or no rainfall at all, the power system has always been what it is. Look at the disadvantage to those who may "suffer" if we had an efficient and operational system in place. Do you think things will ever change? Fact is they can do it, make a system that works for the country over years of proper planning and distribution but to do that would be asking for something outside the norm and unthinkable. Is it possible that there are people in those sectors who know what to do? Maybe in utopia...... hehehe! me thots. :-)

I don't see why we are excusing KPLC. That sounds to me like 'my dog ate my homework'. It is incumbent upon KPLC to put in place measures to protect its customers. Absurd that we are expected to excuse them for blaming its single supplier! On Mon, Nov 2, 2009 at 7:50 AM, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

Lights blink, blink again, then go out, a couple of seconds later speakers go off, milliseconds later, the comp goes off. Is it only Thika Road residents who have witnessed this synchronised blackout, a first from KPLC, or is it another National and patriotic activity? -- with Regards: Get your free technology e-magazine in pdf format: Tekniaonline: http://bit.ly/tekniaonline-2 Maybe we should start a Reality show of collapsing buidlings: http://gramware.blogspot.com

I think it's because the residents of Thika Road are having a super highway under construction. It's what Jonathan Kariara calls 'Diligent Diplomatic Duties'. On 04/11/2009, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:
