Mail server Attachment Size

Skunks and skunknettes, How do I configure a mail server to send send big attachments(Like 50 MB and more)? Is there a way i can integrate it with ftp or should consider online storage? Note: The server is on Linux box.The server is internally managed.

This is usually done in the MTA config. My question is, why would someone want to send a 50MB attachment via mail? I would rather you set up an FTP account with authenticated access. -- ˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙˙ Regards, David Njuki @njukey [Google,Twitter,Yahoo]

On the same note. Are you sure the recipients mail server(s) would accept such a large attachment? -- Lusiola Brian |3 R 1 /-\ |\|

If they are documents you can split them and send them in bits Regards On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 12:51 PM, Brian L <lusiola@gmail.com> wrote:

Forget it and worry about creating a file-sharing repository. If you use a "sane enough" groupware or DMS, you can achieve this too. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler. David FTP looks like a nice solution but to me, it seems a bit complex for the users(Both senders and recipients) to use the system. Also some of the senders will decide to use the ftp space to share and keep personal stuff. Thanks Washington, I like the solution solution. .

The biggest issue you have to confront is that if you setup your mail server to send out 50MB attachments, then since you are not in control of the recipient's mail server, you cannot change their setup. This is why everyone says, forget the email, use something else and the options are as many as there are people on this list ./Ok3ch On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 3:42 PM, kimondo Duncan <kimondodk@gmail.com> wrote:

I need a simple solution where a basic computer user can understand and use not necessarily email based. It should allow secure transfer of documents.

@Kimondo, then your mail subject was very misleading. What you require a file transfer between machines and the first place I can direct you to is www.google.com ./Ok3ch On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 4:14 PM, Paul Kevin <paultitude@gmail.com> wrote:

or maybe http://wetransfer.com

I am talking of guys who will be sending large documents within their usual work schedules. Currently they print the documents and send the documents in hard copy. They want to change the system to be sending soft copy. I think I will implement the groupware. But you never know, I might get a better solution. Most of the options you are giving are for It savvy guys and they are likely to pose challenges to guys having basic computer knowledge.

Look for a file sending client........or get a premium dropbox account. Google does ALOT of wonders On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 5:09 PM, kimondo Duncan <kimondodk@gmail.com> wrote:

Layer 8 issues - like someone said - are normally not issue to solve 'globally' (for all users). A DMS will surely solve the riddle. I am hoping there is one that can allow the (l)user to simply browse and pick the file, upload it to the server, then generate a unique url that the user can send forth to the recipient, who then simply clicks away and downloads the document - hoping bandwidth is made cheap by all providers:-) Kimondo, if you decide to work on a solution, let's share ideas offlist. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ I can't hear you -- I'm using the scrambler. Or configure self managed hotmail for business on domains.live.com, which will allow you to send emails with attachments to a limit of your stated 50MB, and act as a file sharing repository as suggested for emails greater than this, granting each user 25GB of document and personal file space. The rest is change management, policy and training. Warero On Thu, May 26, 2011 at 5:16 PM, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com>wrote:
