The Orange Nyumbani packages are active = good to go. They are using expensive satellite connectivity which explains the poor pricing - thus far. Not wanting to get caught flat footed in the next 2 weeks (when others like AccessKenya begin to sell bandwidth purchased on Seacom) Orange is trying to be shrewd. Personally do not think it will hurt or help them much. For the 1 Mbs package, there is a download limit of 8 Gb - fair use policy. Thereafter one is downgraded to 512 kbs for another 4 Gb of downloads, is then downgraded to 256 kbs for nother 2 Gb pf downloads and is then downgraded again to 151 kbs. Was not told if what happens after 1 Gb @ 151 kbs. The deal breaker for these NYUMBANI packages is that only one person can browse or download stuff at a time. This means that 2++ people cannot connect to the router / modem for Internet access. Not even via wi-fi. Am passing for now ... Keeping my ears and eyes open for other offers ...

Are these download limits tagged to some time frame? Like if I do say 7Gb per month then I'm safe?

You are safe @ 8.0 Gb per month. It is when the counter hits 8.05 Gb that you are downgraded (only for that month) to 512 kbs then to .. Clearly when TEAMS goes live the download limit will increase. They will probably try and cap usage to 20-30 Gb. Some attempts to enforce usage caps are meeting resistance elsewhere. Rita, Kindly note, some (though not all) of my comments in the context of you (Orange ADSL) winning more market share. Hear you have some good SME packages coming up. How does one become an ADSL (credit) reseller? Or are you relying only on the Orange sales team and Telecare centers to do this for you? A clarification on your earlier mail.
One computer can connect to the Livebox after which as many devices that are Wi-Fi enabled can connect to the Livebox. It is a Multi Wi-Fi connector (phones, Laptops and other Wi-Fi enabled devices can connect to the Livebox).
Secondly, kindly note the reason why we have the fair usage policy what you have described being wrong is to ensure Home User get good quality service.

Rita, will the same service platform ( bandwidths and tariffs ) be applied to wireless evdo, for those who are not in copper areas?

my personal opinion : I'd like to congratulate Orange on its step forward. The cheaper rates ( modem included ) will create demand for its services. Demand for copper based services will push telco to lay new networks. I'd also assume that within 12 months, things like 4Mbit/s services will be carried on copper without any changes to demarc equipment. Reason for asking is : Safcom should now face serious competition on its 3g platform from Orange EVDO ( cdma version of 3g ). For safcom 1GB of data used = Kshs 2500 while EVDO ( on nyumbani rates ) will still be a much cheaper option, i.e Data usage wise. Corrections are welcome. Many thnks. :-) 3g needs competition and Evdo is dawa yao. As a suggestion, Orange management should consider creating a flat tariff accros its platforms, whether Adsl or wireless Evdo, which will complement the gap between copper/wireles for now. Hopefully it will be done down the road. Rgds. On Wed, Jul 22, 2009 at 9:38 AM, Rita Gitobu <rgitobu@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi rita, thanks for your response. Actually i would like to say that i did call the 121 number and did get assisted. I was told that all i need to do is go to one of the customer care centers apply to be moved to the new service. I was pleasantly suprised; things are definately improving on the customer care part however now my issue is the copper line which is down :( had reported it 2 weeks ago but no action taken yet. will send u the details off list. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for the effort in developing a good service experience by being available to help your customers the way you have been doing in through skunkworks, it has injected alot of confidence on my part. Thank you On 22/07/2009, aki <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:
