Late night ranting. @lordmwesh i think they (or at least you) have all the maths wrong. If we have only 4000 domains, why do we need soo many staff members. That means the industry is heaving a heavier burden than it can carry. Onto economies of scale, which one preceeds the other, lowering the prices or getting more volumes to achieve economies of scale? I am thinking that most people going to KENIC website would mostly be those who have enough technical knowledge to discern what a self-signed certificate is. I suppose KENIC needs a commercial certificate, signed by Thawte (because it's African by descent):-) -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

According to KENIC website, there are 13361 domains, not 3000. What number of domains does KENIC consider to be sufficient, for there to be a cost reduction? Tito. On 17 July 2010 15:21, Odhiambo Washington <odhiambo@gmail.com> wrote:

Washington I disagree. KENIC should not expect most people going to their website to have "enough technical knowledge to discern what a self-signed certificate" is. That, in my opinion, is ridiculous because on the one hand we can not have KENIC and all .ke supporters (me included) wanting the number of .ke domains to increase while at the same time not recognising that it is a BIG problem that when people go to find out where to register those domains they are greet with a warning advising them to go away from the website. Hehee..

Of course, since KENIC does not allow just anyone to knock at their doors and register a domain:-) They must be classified as a REGISTRAR and they just don't earn that title. Some requirements must be met. I've taken the liberty to take a look at KENIC website again today and I did not see anything posted there for the non-technical folks. I think what you want to see is KENIC website looking something like the godaddy.com or www.enom.com. They will get there one day, I believe. -- Best regards, Odhiambo WASHINGTON, Nairobi,KE +254733744121/+254722743223 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ "If you have nothing good to say about someone, just shut up!." -- Lucky Dube

Certainly. But now this conversation is losing the forest for the trees. The simple point is this: if you have a website (ANY website not just kenic.or.ke) and people logging on to some pages on that website are met with a message advising them to leave your website immediately as it may be a malicious website, that is a problem. Whose problem? It is not the problem of the person trying to access the site, they will simply go elsewhere. It is the problem of the owner of the website. Unless of course your strategy is to scare people away from your own website, in which case, they should carry on! -- Pamoja e:daudi.were@gmail.com <e%3Adaudi.were@gmail.com> skype: d.were
