Hi good people, i need to know if any IMS networks have been deployed in kenya, and if so how independent are they from the existing GSM/GPRS -are they piggy-backing on these networks? And also if anyone has interacted with a SIP deployed IPTV app. what was the streaming quality, type of compression and bandwidth utilization? I'll be more than greatful! Its kind of necessary. Most of you know what this line means ''.....submitted in partial fulfillment for the Award....blah blah'' yes that! God bless y'all! -- People should know when they are conquered.

Skunkers, thanks for always being there. now i need dharura help on this issue. second posting. On Mon, Jun 22, 2009 at 3:24 PM, nyarotho kennedy <kenyarotho@gmail.com>wrote:

Kennedy, No full fledged IMS deployments have been made here. However, there are bits and pieces of IMS that are coming up and are currently on trial by local operators. The fact that you haven't received replies to this could be due to company confidentiality and none disclosure agreements in place. A full IMS platform runs in 100s of million of euros.Hence, operators have chosen to adopt some function of IMS that make economic sense;function here doesn't necessarily mean a node/hardware. Several functions can run on the same box. This box could be an upgraded legacy/classic node, to fit into a 3GPP IMS architecture implementation. One thing is for sure, SIP will be a dominant protocol for mobile operators in the not so distant future. ./bernard On Sat, Oct 17, 2009 at 6:09 PM, nyarotho kennedy <kenyarotho@gmail.com>wrote:

To add, yes, its highly likely that upon some major upgrade, IMS will fully ride on existing 2G/3G networks. Also, using some gateways, traditional VoIP and WiMAX will be supported. The only driving factor to consider are the Applications that can be delivered with such a huge investment. ./bernard On Sat, Oct 17, 2009 at 8:58 PM, Bernard Mwagiru <bmwagiru@gmail.com> wrote:

Thank you very much Benard, you have been of great assistance. well am doing my final year project "converged and interactive telecom grade IPTV service enabled on the IMS Network" and my main area of focus is on the transmission protocols, network efficiency and signalling. minor areas - data compression, app development and network integration to existing systems(*G/UMTS). Clearly am going to focus on SIP/RTP signalling which is of personal interest to me :). i have noted the fact that most providers are not willing to share much. however this is what i need mostly coz i need the project to be as realistic as possible. please if you know any willing firm please let me know. otherwise i will keep u posted on progress. thank you and God bless. From my understanding it's not imperative for an operator to have an IMS platform in order to have converged services. With a VOIP Server and a HEADEND using the same platform and operator can deploy triple play services, the only proviso is 3G must be running on the network.
Let's take the case of Safricom, they run DVB-H services for Multichoice, on the existing 3G infrastructure. SIP/RTP protocols are standard and all telco vendors are doing is introduce a flavor that will allow them get money from operators and is ratified by 3GP. My two cents David On Thu, Oct 22, 2009 at 10:58 AM, nyarotho kennedy <kenyarotho@gmail.com> wrote:
