The ICDL is both a training and testing platform that covers productivity software and basic computer knowledge. For more information please see: http://www.icdl.org.za/index.php It is not a bad thing to have standards for the minimum training. Currently in Kenya there are training schools who award certificates in the "7 basic packages" that leave graduates poorly equipped for employment. By introducing a standard it ensures that add graduates from the same program have the same skills set. That will allow for better curriculum development at the next stage of skill building. The ICDL curriculum can be taught by using OpenSource technology or Proprietary. What is essentially being tested are the skills to use the productivity applications regardless of operating system platform. I have reliable information to the effect that the PS mentioned both Open Source ICDL and Proprietary ICDL. Now looking for the actual KTN footage to confirm what was actually reported, upon whose confirmation, if found skewed reporting as true we shall lodge a formal, open complaint against the media house to the Media Council of Kenya for misinformation on such a sensitive national subject.
