Both, it will be my main work machine, coding at least 6 hours per day, 5 days per week. Movies, music and occasional gaming. Occasional here meaning like 3 hours per week :-)

Hmmm, I wonder if is this a worthy question. Alienware m11x, hands down... Obviously even if you use it mostly for work it will be amped up...if you're a developer think of how many VM sandboxes you can run simultaneously...if you're into CAD...question's answered...if you're a media enthusiast...you'll be converting in a breeze. GPU power counts! If your intention is bootcamp for your gaming then you lose framerates to the m11x. Scratch that, if you're comparing running apps on windows on both machines you're way better off with Alienware. Only drawback I see to the m11x is the fact that it doesn't have an i7...but rumours are that there might be an updated m11x sometime this year with new Nvidia & Intel chips... However, I leave the decision to you with these reviews: http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/14/macbook-pro-core-i7-review?icid=sphere_bl... http://www.engadget.com/2010/02/23/alienware-m11x-review/ Lastly, if you want serious bragging rights...get the Alienware. That bald bug-head does turn heads more than the fruit from the garden of Eden IMO. On Thu, Apr 15, 2010 at 21:38, Josiah Mugambi <jmugambi@gmail.com> wrote:

Clearly risk analysis is limited. The problem could be a cable, or it could be a recalled version(and you are too far to participate) So the risk is 99% that it will work. I love alienware(in fact ive been thinking of getting dealership), dont get me wrong. Every coin has two sides and I totally support Peter checking out both. However, I believe the pros outweigh the cons...a machine's longevity is mostly dependent on how you treat it. So if you have made several trips previously to the computer store regarding a fault on your device...do think twice... On Fri, Apr 16, 2010 at 09:25, Joram Mwinamo <joram.mwinamo@gmail.com>wrote:

Considering Alienware is now owned by Dell, then I don't think support would be such an issue. But my emails to the local dell distributors go unanswered...

I have trawled the net looking for comments from people who have owned the m11x, and most of the complaints are with the SU7300 processor not being as powerful as the core2duo all over the place, but then again, someone mentioned that most games are gpu heavy rather that cpu heavy. As for the Mac, i could always get support and upgrades from skunk Rahim. Two folks here at work have the 17" MBP and they endlessly sing praises about them, show me the cool things they can do. @Alvin, I wanted to find out if i can get the m11x via the official Dell channel, and how much damage it'll do to my bank. @Jacob, yes, there are mac parts right in here in kenya; junction, sarit center, yaya, village market etc. But they are usually priced like parts for Subaru :-) A charger/power adapter for a MBP is like 14k.

I know I am absolutely late in this... But is has come a point where I need to get me hands on an Alienware desktop !!! Preferably 2nd hand or the USD 1000 dollar one: ( http://www.hardwaresphere.com/2008/11/14/affordable-alienware-area-51-750i-d... ) Any place I can view or contact in Kenya ?

I saw ads in the newspaper a while ago, lakini cant rem the details , I think our famous Alvin has a few new ones

I saw the same ad, got so excited mpaka went to Dell's website, saw the mobile number of some regional manager based here, texted the guy, he replied shortly, emailed me and recommended me to some other company. Long story short, the USD$ 799 M11X ended up costing more than 135k since the guy was importing from south africa. My senses returned to me then. Anyways, Alvin is your best bet, but be ready to dig deep into thine pocket. On Thu, Dec 9, 2010 at 3:48 PM, Dennis Kioko <dmbuvi@gmail.com> wrote:

They usually write 7.5 hours of battery life on Alienware laptops - So I believe that should be the range ...

I wouldn't want you to attach the whole advert as I don't want to download a 1MB file. If it was my list I wouldn't even allow HTML email ;) Just write the battery life in addition to the other specs for future ads. Don't understand what is so hard about it. When I look to buy a laptop Battery Life is the second most important thing (after memory). The reason I buy a laptop is that it is portable and can run without power. Hope this explains it: * If it can run for 8 hours I don't need a UPS in the office. * It is nice to be able to use the laptop the whole trip on the bus and not just the first two hours. * Considering the amount of power outages battery time becomes key in Kenya. Not everyone has a generator. If your clients haven't realised the above that you may want to try to tell them about it. Now this is very off thread so maybe I just start a new one about what is important to look for when buying a laptop :) On 12/10/2010 03:40 PM, Alvin Jason Ochieng wrote:
