Re: [Skunkworks] How to block https://facebook.com

I agree with Sheeroh... it's pointless blocking certain websites... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XD2kNopsUs A video by Jason Fried at office productivity... It makes more sense to ban meetings... -- With Regards, Phares Kariuki | T: +254 734 810 802 | E: pkariuki@gmail.com | Twitter: kaboro | Skype: kariukiphares | B: http://www.kaboro.com/ |

My take on this is that, many companies have not put in place systems (not necessarily IT systems) to measure, monitor and evaluate employee productivity. With such a system in place, an employee will have good time-bound measurable targets to meet. Consequences of not meeting the targets on time and in a given standard should also be spelt out. With this in place, the employee will be fully responsible for his/her performance and the employer will not need to keep monitoring to see what the employee is doing every minute. The solution does not lie in blocking sites. Give the employee the internet and expected targets and let them manage their time. On Wed, Mar 9, 2011 at 2:04 PM, Okechukwu <okechukwu@gmail.com> wrote:

Exactly Jimmy If i give you work and its enough to keep you busy and require it done by friday 10 am, why should I then come and restrict facebook etc if you meet the target? Blocking facebook is soo 1900s behaviour. work pressure should guarantee that people work and if they dont meet deadlines because of facebook they shouldnt be working for you On Wed, Mar 9, 2011 at 2:34 PM, Jimmy Thuo <jimmy.thuo@gmail.com> wrote:
