Hello All, Now that we have support for ringbacks in almost all networks, and seeing the adverts on the roads("Your wife is not your plumber..."). Can anyone please tell me how I can advertise my business through the same? What I mean is that, can I have a ring back that says " I'm Omesa , a Plumber in Nairobi"? instead of having some boring song? How much will this cost? Have a good one! Regards, Clement Ongera

Hi Clement,For sure u can do that. It simply depends on whether your service provider allows you to record/upload personal tones as your Ring Back Tone. The charges should be same as buying the tones offered by your provider. On Tue, Aug 4, 2009 at 12:40 PM, Clement Ongera <cnongera@gmail.com> wrote:

Hi Tony, I can make RingBack(s), the issue it seems I have to "talk" to the service providers to allow me to use "my ringback", any insight on this?

Clement,My earlier reply assumed that you sought to have personalized ring back tones on your number (to be played to your callers). For this case you simply assign these "special" ring-back tones to those who call you. This will not require any "talk" with the providers. Zain allows this. I haven't checked the other providers yet but I expect them to do likewise. The creation of the personalized tones is normally achieved in two ways: 1.) Calling the RBT service number to record the tone (mostly spoken voice messages) 2.) Uploading audio files via the service website (if the provider avails this.....coz of copyright issues) If you are seeking to create personalized tones then push them to other customers (for them to use) via the provider, then this will definately require a beer summit :) with the provider. FYI,Alternately there's another option (mostly targeting big corporates) which allows you to sponsor some existing tones. You first "talk" (....aargh just what you were avoiding Clement) to the provider to allow you to pay up-front for a few tones that they already have. These tones are then made available for free to subscribers (a limited number of course). Your "short advert" is then played for some few seconds before the sponsored tone is played.

Hi Tony, Many Thanks for this information, I'm however, interested in "For this case you simply assign these "special" ring-back tones to those who call you". Please shed some light on how to achieve this. I don't want to go the "sponsorship" way.

I feel u Clement.I will use Zain as my reference. I'm pretty sure this functionality is available on other operators too. Dial 155 Choose language by pressing 1(Eng) or 2(swa), Listen to the prompts till it says press 4 to upload your tone. You will be instructed to record your tone after the beep for a max of 15sec, After recording you will be asked whether you want to set this recorded tone as your default to all callers, once you agree you will be required to press 1 to confirm. (The call costs 3/= per min, the tone costs 40/=) NB: If you know your way around, there is no need to wait for the prompts to end before keying in your choices eg Dialing 155, pressing 1, then pressing 4 in quick succession takes you to the recording bit) The above assumes that u r already registered for the service. If not, there is the initial registration bit at the beginning of the call. The rest is pretty much the same. Hope this helps. Hi Tony, Many Thanks for the knowledge. If I happen to know for other networks I'll sure post it here. Have a good one
