I have used the app n its actually pretty neat. Its basically has 2 features that work exactly like SMS2Email and Google's Gtalk SMS. Last time I used it costs were Kshs 1.50 per SMS. On Thu, Aug 12, 2010 at 2:13 PM, The Ice Man <aki275@googlemail.com> wrote:

- The app is more in favour of the operator than the user. SMS characters limit = 160, 1Mbyte characters limit = 1,000,000 ( or close ). Costs of 1 SMS versus 1 Mbyte is hugely out of proprotional. Big looser is the end user.
Maybe not... i dont know about this particular service -- but Zain have a similar thing which I have seen some NGOs using in the field. Its basically SMS without 160 char limitations -- you can send long SMS which gets transformed to email. The carrier charge (if i recall correctly ) irrespective of length was that of a single sms.

If the cost is as you mention, it makes sense for those travelling outside data coverage areas. The last I heard, even Loki is covered by Safaricom Edge. Then there is the issue of screen size and memory limitations on not so smart handsets? What target market is the app seeking? A value added service for the business sector or the general kenyan public?
If anyone has used the app, pls update on costs.
