@Kibe, you know when you say "GIS expert", what comes to mind is Esri, Autodesk etc. However, in your clarification, you want someone do to mapping in Symfony, which means they will most likely end up using one of the following: 1. Openlayers/OSM 2. Google Maps 3. leaflet.js (if you haven't already, check it out, makes mapping a breeze) Being able to use the above three does not make one a GIS expert, its just a coder who can map stuff. I happen to be next-door to a room full of true GIS experts, and they are as far away from PHP/Symfony as we are from time travel, but I sit next-desk to a bunch of PHP dudes who have mapped stuff quite easily, though not in Symfony. To Mr. Sheer Curiosity, I think the question is, which ones teach PHP? In Uni we would complain about not being taught to code in the 'relevant' and 'popular' languages. Then you realize the lecturer's job is not to teach you cram a language (ie how to write code) but to teach you how to think before writing code (i.e algorithms). Then you appreciate that critical thinking skill they instilled in you makes you not 'fear' any language because the most important thing is the algorithm. At least I know many guys I graduated with in UoN do.
In summary, Most programmers are self taught in the different languages.
