I was in South Africa recently, and from what I saw, I have the following comments: 1. The speed limit on the highway from O.R Tambo Airport is 110Km/H 2. People DO drive that fast. 3. The road has clear markings. The signs are hung above the road, NOT ON THE SIDE. 3. The signs are legible and are lighted properly 4. the road has proper Concrete shoulders.. NOT these Ghastly metal barriers that people are stealing. 5. The corners are banked. This prevents aquaplaning especially in the wet weather. 6. The exits are clearly marked, and have adequate leeway. 7. The roads have proper lights 8. People prefer to use the GauTrain to get to the airport. Every time I am on Jogoo road and see the Ghastly flyovers, I think to myself, The architects and engineers are DEAD! Is it that we have sacrificed professionalism, safety, aesthetics and commonsense at the alter of corruption and greed? I think we are taking this matter casually yet it presents an opportunity for innovators, any time i have been driven around europe i have noted that the drivers are very weary of cameras, most of the GPS systems even detect cameras in the vicinity, this deters any drivers who are tempted to speed or commit any traffic crimes, Cameras are very effective in that they can capture a cars number plate, with these police can go after the owners of the vehicles who will in turn produce the people who were driving the car or take responsibility for the crime. In simple times technology can help the police enforce the law since human beings have a natural affinity to break the law.
