Hi Which operator are you using, call them up and they should help you recover your password. If you cant afford to loose data, you shouldnt afford to loose a password. Open the battery cover, under the battery, you will find a link written "Forgot Password?" Click there and you will get instructions on how to reset the password. Please note that you cant see this link unless the battery is connected to the phone.

I guess "your friend" can actually afford to loose the data, if not the device. Only someone who can afford such luxuries can also afford to forget a password. Ask how many people have forgotten their ATM PINs, and they are few.

Honestly speaking, how can someone 4get their password? If it's not password1 and not password2 and not password3, then it must be passwordN, but the number of attempts on the device is limited. I don't see how you will get around this issue, bar from talking to RIM to give you "engineer's" access to the phone, if something like that exists.
