[Skunkworks] How do phone manufactures come up with prices of smart phones?

A 40 inch smart full HDTV with similar or better features than a high end Smart phone (iphone,Samsung etc) with a meager screen costs the same or less. Who is fooling who here? Laptops are much smaller than desktops and cost less than equally spec'd desktop. The desktop requires more materials to build but costs more.
