A 40 inch smart full HDTV with similar or better features than a high end Smart phone (iphone,Samsung etc) with a meager screen costs the same or less. Who is fooling who here?

Laptops are much smaller than desktops and cost less than equally spec'd desktop. The desktop requires more materials to build but costs more. Miniaturization or not phones are over priced primarily as a result of consumer spending trends.
