Carrying a gun may look very enticing, but what if they notice you have it before you can use it? It no longer becomes the 'go to ur ATM and remove all ur monies' crime only, they will surely kill you. ./Ok3ch

Quick question,
Isn't the real question why there are so many armed thugs? If there is more than one thug, isn't a pepper spray a liability? I know I'm being a pacifist here, but, when thugs go after an armoured car, they have the whole shebang, AK 47's etc. If we decide to protect ourselves against that, what will be be using, grenades? Use a pepper spray to protect yourself against a thug, he'll evolve, carry a knife, you carry a knife, he gets a gun, you get a gun, he gets a machine gun, you get a machine gun, he get's a bazooka. There is no end to this, we are going back to the old days when everyone used to carry a weapon (machete, fimbo, pepper spray, pistol, all in the same category). Shouldn't a civilized society be moving towards civil disarmament and not vice versa?
It's simpler to think of the here and now, instincts of self protection etc. However, we have seen from the "necklace" days (thugs used to be burnt as a routine matter), that violence doesn't help. The thugs got guns, and now shoot you. You get gun's they'll get bigger guns. At the end of the day, if someone really want's your property, he'll get it. What we should aim for is a society where the urge to rob is minimised.
