
I also believe that both are here for a long while yet. desktop can leverage local resources in ways web can't, while web is flexible, deployment easier etc etc. IMHO, as a developer you need to have a basic grasp of at least one and master the other. And i think the coalition between web and desktop may already have happened, in the name of Adobe Air<http://www.adobe.com/products/air/comparison/>. However, like Rad! said, the desktop ain't dying anytime soon.
