I also believe that both are here for a long while yet. desktop can leverage local resources in ways web can&#39;t, while web is flexible, deployment easier etc etc. IMHO, as a developer you need to have a basic grasp of at least one and master the other.<br>

<br>And i think the coalition between web and desktop may already have happened, in the name of <a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/air/comparison/" target="_blank">Adobe Air</a>. However, like Rad! said, the desktop ain&#39;t dying anytime soon. <br>
